RE: Vulcan at Hendon…….
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-01-03 AT 07:48 PM (GMT)]Oh wow! Thanks so much for that! See what I mean about the big white patch on the nose? On the patch, I could just make out the work ‘Argies’ scratched into it!

RE: Avro Shackleton WL790
Re the Long Marston airframe: I put a profile on a few months ago also mentioning it’s state and was slated for it! being informed that it was “in preservation” and “under long term restoration” by a “committed and dedicated preservation group”.
I’m glad to see that at least someone shares my “ill informed” views……!

RE: FlyPast article on airfield dumpsites
Also, I know it came to naught but was -any- evidence of those lancasters buried in a field found a few years ago??? I remember a picture in the national press that at least showed what looked like an outline of a lanc on a radar picture……..

RE: Victor under threat??
You’d think they would just shut the anti flash curtains would’nt you?!

RE: Hendon
Yeah, and Oriental city is good too. Top notch oriental food for nect to nothing. Just up the road near ASDA on Edgware road.
RE: Wheres it gone?
Well I was there the other week and one of the volunteers told me that the Greame White hanger IS being moved to the site and that the control tower is to be saved by the developers………..
RE: Vulcan XL391 pics 2001
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-03-02 AT 10:23 AM (GMT)]No, I did’nt get a look inside but in the early nineties I did. Then, she was quite complete although some instruments were smashed. She still smelled like a Vulcan too! The ejector seats were complete with all straps and psp’s as well. Someone has removed the access ladder now though. Whether that’s been stolen or not, I don’t know, but the door and window have been continually open for at least ten years. I’ve not been for a while since moving to London and I recently heard a rumour that she had been vandalised on the outside with paint. Re the spares situation, I would be very surprised if anything is salvageable on the aircraft. It has been exposed to salty air for over 20 years and a lot of the skin is pitted with tiny holes allowing ingress of more salty water to the stuff inside. As far as I can tell none of the radar/ecm equipment has been removed although this will be knackered by now as well…..

RE: Vulcan XL391 pics 2001
Hmmm! I went all the way to Wigan to pick up my photos so that I could scan them for you and no reply! Oh well. If you do see them Peter, I hope that they are of interest to you!!!!!!!!!

RE: Vulcan XL391
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-03-02 AT 07:12 PM (GMT)]I will post the pics tomorrow mate. Can you believe that the fools they actually aqquired her in 1981 with a view to flying her! No back up, no spares, no nothing. Yeah, all the commotion about putting her on a plinth was in fact just some guy who was “In the RAF once” who said that he was going to do it. The fools at the Blackpool Gazette bought his crap and ran a massive spread on it. Needless to say, this guy has’nt been heard of since…

RE: Vulcan XL391
Hi! As I have moved to London, I have been unable to visit ‘391 for a while. I have some pics that I took last year which I had difficulty uploading but will do these for you when I get back. I last saw here in December 02 and she was in a very poor state. The u/c doors have exfoliated, she is riddled with corrosion and would fall apart if towed. At best, this aircraft could be saved as a cockpit section, but that has been badly damaged and is missing parts. I think a tender is out for her scrapping at the moment. Do’nt listen to people who say they are going to put her on a plinth. she’ll still rust up there and would be even more dangerous. It’s a shame, but she will be the next Vulcan to go I’m afraid…..

RE: Taxi buccs
No, the Pink Bucc at Elvington is not taxiable as the RAF spoilsports purged all her systems on delivery and shorted all her circuits to ensure she could never run again. The other Bucc however, the BAe test and trials example is however in full working order.

RE: W1048
I was in Hendon last week and the aircraft seems to be in worse condition than it was then. There seems to be hardly any equipmwnt inside the aircraft and the engines are no longer attached to the aircraft by any substantial means. On the pictures, the engines are clearly firmly attached to the aircraft. Why is this?
RE: Just trying out
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-11-01 AT 12:45 PM (GMT)]Oh cool! Now we can post pics! I’ve not been on for ages I thought the forum was dying! I hope you don’t mind me putting this on here! It was taken at Woodford in 1991 but my lens jammed in the full zoom position! Hopefully I’ll be able to get another one soon eh?
Paul.
