When I heard of this site and as someone with an avid interest in old airfields, especially Burtonwood, it was like a gift from God! There are some amazing finds on there and some great photos but I was really disappointed to find that there were lots of spelling and grammatical mistakes contained within much of the text, with very little accompanying information. Often the spelling mistakes were for things such as the above mentioned ‘sippo’ lighter, which massively reduces the credibility of the authors in my eyes. Also, putting up a blurred picture of an amazing find like the Zippo lighter is pointless and again reduces your credibility.
Overall though, it is a great site with lots of potential. Just take more care with what you put up. Can we see a non blurred picture of the lighter please? I would love to see what it says and also find out some more information about it. What were the circumstances of it being found? Who found it? and where is it now? e.t.c.
Also, can we have more information regarding the engine mountings and the aircraft parts found? Where are they now? Are there any more photos?
Thanks,
Paul
I saw a Sterling Caravelle whilst waiting for a flight at rhodes airport in the summer of 1990. Very impressive!
I was wondering if any of the ACS Tridents were used post 1985 and if so for how long? Do any of them still exist? I have scoured the net looking for details or pictures but they seem to have vanished without trace!

I might get criticised for this, as whilst I could not wait for her return to the air, I have found her post restoration displays to be rather boring and sedate. I understand that this is to preserve engine and airframe life however, I would much rather have seen 2-3 years of full on 70’s/80’s style Vulcan ‘welly’ with some roller landings thrown in as opposed to sedate flypasts and hardly any howl.
Perhaps it is now time for TVOC to pull the stops out display wise, make this her final season, sell/give her back to BAH and retire her back to Bruntingthorpe where she belongs for many years of howling down the runways?

This is mine….. it looks bad! Is it? Does anyone know how I can improve this? I am with BT.
Thanks
Paul

Sorry, my mistake. I went out on BA from LHR and then back into LGW with Malev.
Best: Malaysian LHR-KUL in 2006. Great service, excellent IFE, -HOT- female cabin crew, although the 737-300 from KUL-HKT was on it’s last legs with lots of surface corrosion on the wings!
A close second come Singapore, followed by Cathay Pacific and Thai.
Also, I highly rate Bangkok Airways!
The worst has to be:
Malev: BUD-LHR in 2009. The hottest jet ever, with no meal and just one small, inedible triangular sandwich and a paper cup of sickly orange juice. Also, the cabin crew were minging heffers!
I try and avoid Ryanair whenever possible, although when I have been with them they have been on time and got me to where I needed to be. I just try and avoid them because I don’t like the way they do business.
I don’t normally post anymore as there are people far more knowlegable and worthy to post than myself, however if this is viable, I would be more than willing to assist with fundraising to get her to Elvington. Is this viable Charles? and also, does anyone have any ideas?
Also, without cutting her up: Can this be done and how much would it cost approximately?
It might well be true, however I doubt that you will get any real answers due to ‘victors history’. Many RAF aircrew were killed after to bailing out over Axis held territory and this is well documented, however any accounts of this happening over here will have been quickly and permanently buried a long, long time ago.
Wouldn’t the engines have flamed out above Mach 1?
Pasted as written by the ‘seller’:
“Hawker Hunter Jet with Buckineer seats. In full working order and hangered at Exeter Airport . Available for viewing and test flights prior to purchase if required. Good flight history can be proivided. Fully operational ,with working ejector seats, and used several times this year.
Many pilots available for training or flights if you are not a pilot but wish to experience owner such a powerful jet.
Buckineer seats enable right or left controls and so ideal for training or simply for fun.”
Sounds like a right walt if you ask me…….!
Is the Vulcan at the beginning XH558? I can just about make out the letters! (I think!)
Interesting find at Burtonwood. I know that lots of aircraft were scrapped over on A & E sites and bet there is loads of stuff in and inside the grass on the North side of the motorway.
Has anyone ever had anything from RAF Burtonwood? The site was finally cleared nearly two years ago but the taxiways are still there on A & E sites.
