I thought both groups had given up on building a HP42.
Mike Russell was one, but he died a few years ago.

We did have two port wings. Part of it ended up on the T21c i think. The rest went to Poland with the remains of a fuselage we had.

My father still hates Bader. After the way Bader treated him when fixing the tail of his Percival Proctor.

I once cut a hole in the Petrel fuselage with a screw driver, as I didnt have a chisel. That was when Mike Russell owned it. My father had just failed its CofA due to rusty control cables. We needed a better look inside. A repair and it was as good as new.

They use to make spare cockpits for T21’s but havent seen any since the late 1960’s. Last T21 we had hadn’t got the cockpit left. That went to Poland. At Lasham they did have a spare T7 Cadet cockpit some time back. I would think a T31 would be easier to get hold off. Have seen the odd modern plastic glider cockpit now and then.

I can only echo what Sq/L said.

One thing though, and I admit to not knowing my prewar gliders, is the Petrel in anyway related to the German Göppingen Minimoa?? They seem to have similar lines.

Apart from the gull wing the Petrel is not related to the Minimoa. The Slingsby Petrel is related to the German Rhoenadler. Frank Charles the speedway rider asked Fred Slingsby to build him an improved version of the Rhoenadler. The Rhoenadler did not have a gull wing. Frank Charles was killed in 1939 in the first Petrel when the winch cable failed to release. Causing the glider to dive into the ground. Two other petrel where built both still survive on is in the USA, the other is based at Booker Uk.
