A couple of Saturdays back, I caught the tail end of a 1943ish black and white film on Film 4. I can’t remember the title though. I seem to remember that the film was by quite a well known director such as John Ford.
It featured an early model B17 (B or C?) in the aftermath of Pearl Harbour. It definitely had the narrow rear fuselage and small tail fin plus the side cupolas. It was interesting to see the cupolas being unshipped and stowed in order to use the guns. There was also a dorsal gun and a belly gun. The Japanese fighters were played by various radial engined US types such as Harvards etc.. The US fighters were P39s and 40s.
Any ideas for the title?

Again not aviaton related but my grandad on the right of the photo. But he did see the Red Devil ( Red Baron) fly over the trenches in his red Albartros.

Well done. Looking forward to seeing it next year.

How about the SM79s in ‘They Who Dare’ (1954) with Dirk Bogarde?
Assuming they were real. Does anyone know who’s they were? It is known the 117 squadron RAF had 4 of them at one time, but I had thought that both they and the Italians had parked them by 1954.

Didn’t they use Lebanese SM79’s in the film? There are two surviving SM79’s which I think came from there?

Some people do wear a helmet. Willy Hacket test flying the Scud 11 at Old Warden this year.
Dave
I feel really uncomfortable seeing that image. Nothing worn as protective clothing, no helmet,.. An accident waiting to happen if you ask me!
You should have see Geoff Moore at Dunstable. He flew a EoN Primary with no clothes on at all some years back. Not a pritty sight!

Here’s one taken by my uncle around 1940/41 at Reyjavik. Before that he had been at AASF HQ Reims during the Battle of France. He was later killed in Palestine in 1942. Helping out moving a bomb on the airfield, on his days leave!
Dave
Yes thats right. G-AALH, Used by Alan Cobham.
Dave
No sorry, not right.
