My father’s cousin was the pilot (J.B. Underwood) of the only lancaster lost on the first 1000 raid on Cologne. 61 sdqn lanc R5561. I have never found out what its code letter was. Last year his log books turn up, they had been put in a skip, then to the local RAFA inturn passing them on to the Bexley archive centre. Years of trying to do research paid of in the end! I never thought they would have survived.

Sorry, its not listed in my A.R.B. notices 1949 copy. But the next number 61271A/X3 is listed as a Cheetah 1X Anson 1. So that dos’nt help at all. Good luck!

Mike Russell did a great deal in saving many vintage gliders and there drawings. He also restarted pleasure flying with the rapide G-AGTM, which the public had not had the chance to fly in for many years. Then came the tiger moth. As an ex member of Russavia we had many great times. Being very busy loading Rapides, Dakotas , Trilanders and a host of other aircraft.
I flew with Mike many times As did my family.
    Thanks Mike!

In Leighton Buzzard, Beds there is a Vimy road. This comes from where Morgan & Co built Vickers Vimys. The site is now a tesco,s, which has a vimy weather vane on top. Also the town has bronze sign with a four bladed prop in the centre.

When i was as at a vintage glider rally at Haddenham. Some years ago, a old fellow showed me cable cutter. It looked like new. It was the only one i have seen. I never saw the guy again. So there must be one out there some where!

If it was a home build i doubt if it would have a construction number. As the plans came from the book.

I wonder how many people are left in the UK that can still do wood and fabric work on aircraft. My father is in his late 70’s and trying to wind down work so that he can do his own glider’s and a bit on my Luton Minor. But he is asked to help from people all over the world. Normaly just a email or looking at some drawings. He turns down most jobs now. Im a thatcher so dont get to much time to spend on my luton minor or restore my two classic motor bikes. My son who is 24 has been brought up with aeroplanes and gliders (he was mentioned in Flypast when he was 5 years old as a crew member of Russavia at Duxford). He has helped his grandad working on many rare vintage gliders and flying in them. He loves aircraft but works with me. He spends a lot of spare time building flying models or taking photos of aircraft. We both dont have the skills to carry out a full restoration. Its hard enough just trying to sort out a good piece of timber.

I think in the future we do need to train up more wood and fabric workers as we will need them.

I first read about the crashed Camel in one of my father,s old war time Aeroplane Spotter magazines. I cant remember which year it was. I must go through them again when i get time. I wrote to David J Smith year,s ago when it was mentioned in a early ‘High Ground Wrecks’ book.

[QUOTE=Alex Crawford;1086114]Malta has a Sea Gladiator, one of the famous trio. Apparently its getting a complete set of wings at some point in the future.

When i was at the Malta air museum. At the beginning of 2001 there was a set of wings and empennage for the sea gladiator which had come from Norway.
