Have you tried to contact the Author (Brian Cull) directly.
He is a frequent visitor to the 12 O’clock high forum.
He did advertise the book there a few months back.

I have been researching 127 Squadron for quite a while now.
As you state 127 Squadron spent some time at Southend at No 17 APC.
The squadron arrived at Southend on 12 July 1944.
They brought with them 16 aircraft (Spitfire IX) An extra aircraft joined then the following day.
I can give you the serials and codes if you are interested.
Twenty eight pilots attended the course. (Again if you want I can list them for you.)
The course ended on the 23rd July and 127 left Southend and returned to Tangmere.
I have a group photo taken at the end of the course.

Andy
Unshackled Spirit was a Spitfire IX but the Serial No. is unknown.
The time of the trasfer of funds is not stated.
It does state that Sgt Miles-Osborn was in communication with Mr Sandys, the Parlimentary Secretary to the Ministry of Supply (Responsible for aircraft production) betwean August and December 1943.

Andy
I agree
I have cheched and checked CWGC time after time various spellings etc. Nothing! But I have been told that he did not survive the war and need proof either way.
