Excellent news for India , France , Dassault and its partners .
    But not for me 😡
I NEVER wanted the Rafale to be sold abroad , but that ‘s just me …

    Cheers.

… because now all your techs are sending to India? 😀 😮

However, it isn’t really a “simple” replacement of aicraft. The Rafale provides significant capability improvement over the aircraft it is replacing.

Replacement aircraft tend to be better than the ones they replace, but are still replacing existing aircraft. Surely you must have come across this in your daily life no?

If that was the case, why spend almost 10 years with multiple bidders in a competition?! 😀

    Get a better deal.

I don’t think we will see a response from China or Pakistan, as these don’t really make any significant difference to how things stand between those countries. It’s just some replacement aircraft, not a massive war like expansion.

One question to everyone : Do you think the Typhoon would have won today if the Eurofighter Consortium had offered a better/lower price than the Rafale International ?

No, Mirage 2000 was the preferred choice. Since Mirage 2000 became unavailable the Rafale is next logical choice.

today, that is certain, but in two to three years, who can say if they’ll still be in office? or what political climate there will be by then? a,d how will the f-35 evolve during that time?..

Cameron will be yeah, Sarkozy might not but the damage has been done, and I doubt his successor would be willing to go to the extent required to repair that damage to the point where such a purchase would be a decent PR move for the Brit government! The political climate in the UK is one of ever increasing hostility to the European Union, for the same reasons as ever really. People view the EU as France/Germany dictating to them, and they aren’t liking it. Take a look at the Euro-Barometer stats 🙂

British public opinion on the veto of the EU treaty….

    In favour: 62%
    Neutral: 19%
    Against: 19%

    @Dave168

Not much point adding firepower to the Type 23 really, other priorities.

I think it’s quite clear that in the current political and social climate, any procurement of French fighter aircraft is pretty much out of the question. It just won’t go down well with the public, the media and certainly won’t be any good for Dave Cameron and the Conservative party.

…and Exocet missiles. And last time I visited the Aster production line, it was in France. Milan was a joint French/Germany programme.

Really? Which RN ship is the Exocet deployed on?

Sure, benefits have come about because of spending on the Olympics, this is obvious, nobody disputes this, if you spend billions on stuff in a city there will likely be benefits. The question is could the money have had a greater effect invested in something else? Could it have been put to greater effect by helping SMEs by for example lowering the cost of fuel?

I understand that Landlords are asking the folks who are renting their properties in the surrounding area to vacate their properties ASAP, as the landlords can hire out the properties for exhorbitant prices due to overseas visitors to the games.
Makes you proud to be a Brit don’t it ?.

I’ve heard this too, there’s also the special treatment for the Olympic family… maybe they will have separate drinking fountains, toilets, and you will have to move to let them sit down on the bus too? 😎

Even if the US can’t spare any, other F18 operators may be able to supply some? Although they might need some modifications for carrier ops.
