@Arthur Pewtey
Nope, you are trying to mix my two comments, which are about two quite different things.
1. Free sports facilities are a better choice for the health and fitness of British people than Olympic parks for the worlds athletes.
2. Olympics may inspire some a new British generation, but if you want to inspire something with taxpayers money, how about inspiring business and R&D to fix the economic mess.
Seems quite clear to me.

I think my generation have much bigger problems left over by the previous generation than lack of inspiration for sport 😎

I think it also depends on if we intend to keep them after F35 delivery? If so, F18E might make more sense as it could be converted to EG-18G, or used for tanking… F18C makes more financial sense if its a really short term thing.
@eagle1
F18 has the advantage of more of the FAA pilots being trained for it, so will be in service faster. F18 can drop bombs and carry AMRAAM, thats good enough for interim. The only issue I see is a potential shortage of F18s, since the USN is going to need more life from the F18 fleet too. The very slow delivery of Rafale means it’s hardly available at short notice in decent numbers to be an interim option, and any UK domestic production of it would take even longer!
@Rii
Your statement makes no sense. France faces far bigger problems than Britain, Google “Euro Crisis”. They aren’t in a position to procure a 65,000t aircraft carrier, nor is Brazil. China could afford them though, but can’t think of many others that can.
@Lindermyer
ASRAAM could just be used in Sidewinder mode, its only an interim aircraft.

It’s an awkward question for those Scots wishing to have a double standard 😀
As to the Isle of Wight, I think that would be quite an interesting independent country! Perhaps they could organise free trade agreements with Southampton, Bournemouth, Poole and Portsmouth? Ahh yes, I can see it now, a duty free at Brockenhurst 😀

I don’t see how it shows what the UK is capable of… There’s just not much to be done that is a demonstration of something useful. The only significant one is the stadium ect, but there are already examples of those in the UK.
Sport is fine, but British funding for it needs to be focused on the majority of the population, not events to show how great some 5 stone runner from Kenya is. How about making more gyms and swimming pools available to the public for next to nothing to be run by local councils?

@Mildave
They replaced it because the M45 was rubbish. As for the rest, good to see you agree there is little chance of M51 procurement 😎
That is by no means certain. I don’t think their has been a decision on what’s going to happen after Trident, at least not in the previous SDR.
Nobody has made any serious mention of the M51 being procured, and all the talk and agreements have been about using the Trident successor. From a technical standpoint the M51 doesn’t even make sense, it’s inferior to the Trident 2!
@Sens
The UK will almost certainly go with the US Trident replacement, not M51, and so the warhead will be designed for compatability with the American missile. There is some cooperation between France and the UK on atomic weapons, but I think we need to be careful not to exaggerate it.
British Army not Royal Army
Fleet Air Arm not Royal Air Arm
Royal Air Force and Royal Navy as they are
😎
As to the question, similar things to those changed on the F35. I think comms was one of them.
As others have said, the problems, and potential problems facing France over the next year or two are epic! I’d say they will probably need to increase defence spending whilst axeing everything else just to dampen civil chaos if things really do go bad.
Frenchies? That’s really not necessary, your not saving time by typing that as opposed to French, so it must be a poor poor attempt to be humourous, because I doubt you would deliberately attempt to insult. Mods change this please
I use the term Frenchies all the time, it’s not an insult, more a friendly slang term.
