    @Phil Foster
    “Wales will go their own way eventually, NI will rejoin with the republic and even Cornwall will go their own way but I have heard now that the people studying ways around the so called ‘West Lothian Question’ now want to see a break up of England itself. I can’t see any economic, constitutional or legal reason for doing this but I can see why the Welsh, the Scots and the Irish want it.”

    I don’t think wales and NI are likely to break off. I’d explain why but tbh I’m not in the mood for other reasons, just felt like commenting 🙂

    @JT442
    On the borders topic that really depends on whether Scotland plans to join the Schengen zone. If they do, then a border will be enforced. If they don’t, then an open border is possible with England. A border fence wouldn’t be particularly difficult, it’s not exactly a huge border, and as you say most of it could be policed at the highway entrances.

    “We’re a very angry nation, which is why the Scots have been always been used in Britain’s fighting front line so often in the last few hundred years.”

    I think the real reason they are more likely to be in the army on the frontline has less to do with being angry, or bring brave warriors, and more to do with a lack of opportunities, poor job prospects, public sector dominated economy. Of course this is far less romantic war novel, and far more uncomfortable truth. You are of course free to disagree, and I’m sure you do 🙂

    One thing I have found quite funny from many Scottish in the debates on the issue is that they get very angry if anyone opposes the indepedence, yet also get very angry if anyone is happy for them to become independent 😉

    @Al

    NI and Wales are part of the UK, but they do not contribute to bailing out Scotland, being in a pretty similar state themselves. Who said England should kick Scotland out? Not I, just you! I said those that aren’t in Scotland but are in the rest of the UK should kick Scotland out, since the Scottish make so much noise about being independent. I’d certainly welcome a referendum on kicking England out of the UK though, to be voted on by all of the UK, and another on kicking Scotland out to be voted on by all of the UK, I know how I’ll be voting! You can also have another referendum on Scotland leaving, that gives Scotland double the chance of leaving, again I’m all in favour of that. Since we’re feeling all democratic, I’d also welcome an in/out referendum on the EU too, option 1: stay in, option 2: leave but be friends and trade 😎

    @jbritchford

    Thats effectively Devo Max, which Salmond wants to be on the ballot too. In other words, Scotland keeps their taxes, and the rebates, and no doubt demands all the oil/gas, and decides how to spend it! Complete separation is a much better solution, the Scottish control their own taxation, and spend it on whatever they want, completely independent from the rest of the union.

    Lower wages, lower taxes, less regulation, and in many cases little or no-IP to pay for in the whole chain (i.e low costs for each supplier in the chain which would otherwise accumulate) and machinary ect will probably be much cheaper to aquire too.
