    From the article it’s not the airframe that South Korea really want, but rather full transfer of technology on the engines! In other words, they’d like a copy of Rolls-Royce military division. So the airframe shown probably isn’t too relevant 🙂

    They only really need something suitable for QRA duties and perhaps some occasional regional exercises or UN work. There’s no requirement for being able to fight the UK, and buying aircraft geared to that would be mostly a waste unless they invest similarly elsewhere in the forces to get the benefits from that aircraft investment.

    I am very disappointed to hear of this player drinking beer, I’d at least expect him to be able to do a few shots as well.

    @Liger30

    So we can expect the engines to be facing the front, the cats out to each side, and the elevators to go from sea level to the hangar? 😉

    Maybe they could start counting what the black budget is used for?

    I dont see why US cant close the multiple bases they have overseas.

    Closing down bases in Japan and Europe would end up saving US billions of dollars.

    Not many of them about. Besides, the overseas bases are significantly more useful to the US military than the domestic ones.

    85mph isn’t arbitary though, it’s the speed which most of the cars are travelling around, and so they are just pulling over people that are going far quicker than anyone else.

    As for HGVs, I don’t think anyone has called for a speed increase for them, so it’s unlikely to happen.

    If you want to use the thinking distance argument, then the limit should be far higher for motorcyclists than car drivers as the thinking distance is likely to be shorter due to increased concerntration and lack of distractions.

    According to the Congressional Budget Office, the latest US supercarrier (~100,000 tonnes) will cost $13.5 billion. If you can get a 65,000 tonne carrier for £2 billion (~$3 billion), that’s less than a quarter of the price!

    The key question is affordability. Even the American are baulking at the cost of carriers these days.

    To be a good comparison though, it would need to a nuclear carrier, and CVF isn’t, so it becomes more than just a matter of scaling.

    It’s a non argument. You don’t get pulled till you’re doing 80 on the motorway anyway so effectively the speed limit is already 80 so what’s to discuss? I see no reason to change just for the sake of change.

    Because they would rather less people were breaking the law, and so will raise the limit so that is the case. There are of course many other valid reasons for raising the limit, but that is one I saw the minister had given in a paper.

    kev takes careful aim, he runs up to the ball, he shoots……. and misses the point completely.

    Nothing you have posted in that response has anything to do with whether the limit should be raised or not, which is the subject of this thread. We aren’t discussing whether you are a law abiding citizen or not, so it’s fairly irrelevant.
