Memphis Belle
look forward to seeing your shots from Duxford and Binbrook , drooling already !!
BTW – i flew in Yankee Lady in 03 at Reading Pennsylvania – awesome experience – even at 400 $
-came in at 340 quid
Memphis Belle
Is it just me, but during some of the fighter-attack sequences, I swore I could have seen some of the Mustangs diving past the Fortress formations – even after they were supposed to have returned to base!
LETS SEE IF I CAN FIND THAT SHOT DAZ
Memphis Belle
I also have a picture of “Mother and Country” taxying in minus her port outer cowling and with the prop feathered – was this for filming or for real??[/QUOTE]
She lost the cowling after blowing a cylinder pretty early on in the sequence at Duxford – I might have a shot somewhere of an engine run up with a borrowed engine from Mary Alice
I heard the NMF 51’s were for distant background shots hence thats why they werent readily apparent in the film

And N17W passing through Glasgow on her way home, 12/8/89

Thanks again Moondance – seeing Kathleen reminds me of a vet I know who was shot down on his first mission -Regensburg 17 Aug 43 – he said they almost named their plane Miss Kate although he toyed with suggestion of changing it to Miss Stake referring to his general feelings about the Air War at that time and its survivablity ,after flying in a 17 last year in the States I had more of an idea of what he meant .
did you live at Glasgow to see N17W on her way home
thanks Ron
Model Spits
Nice collection 🙂
would be good to see all the different marks in the same scale to compare just how much they altered that beauty over the years
Memphis Belle
That upper shot is FANTASTIC! It could ALMOST be a 1943 shot…
Thanks Daz
adding a couple more shots – the paint jobs were pretty authentic hey ?
I Love the shot of the IGN Example in transit to Binbrook (at bottom of this pile of shots ) after finishing at Duxford , thanks you guys for the earlier thread – this could go on and on as it invokes so much interest and passion in a lot of us
I have the Video “The other Stars of Memphis Belle” – good to see the clip of a 17 doing a low level fly by firing the blank 50’s out of the waist .The crash scene is pretty grainy – some nice shots of the 17’s arriving at Binbrook though some of the commentary by extras is pretty naff
Keep it goin guys

Re Memphis Belle
Thanks Moondance for the awesome photos – looks like we were there on the same day – I doubt anything this big will ever happen again – apart from maybe in the States
My Vet friend who flew Right Waist in 44 said the Movie was too much Hollywood – the script was pretty bad but I loved the cinematography and music – I guess Modine and Stoltz did give the film some credibilty -oh and the fleet of Warbirds !!
will add a couple more shots
Thanks ..Ron
Woodchurch Pics
Superb Shots ..thanks, really appreciate it as I was unable to go down all that way from Bolton , but will do next year
The Best Av Art
OK , I know Mr Taylor is an pro and Trudgalong sells prolifically but this Artist is THE BEST and is relatively unknown .I know , its an irony !!
see for yourself

Frank Wooton
The skyscapes, seascapes and landscapes were all excellent but were generally ruined with the aeroplane which in most cases were wong in some way. It started with the twisted Spitfire wings,
Agree that accuracy is everything in aviation art and those Spitfire Wings are notoriously difficult to capture correctly – a lot of this comes from as you saying using the wrong photo – ie one taken close by and placing it on a canvas where it is not so close – ie smaller ,this causes all kinds of perspective problems .
Gava Exhibition Mall Galleries
Ooops I didn’t see Janies initial comment on the Guild Exhibition . Hope you make it Janie , must be nice to get the chance
will enclose a painting I did of Janie (The P51 ) Ha

Keiths B24
I Must say I agree that Keith Woodcocks B24 is a fantastic piece of art – It has dynamism , drama and more , it won an award at the American Society of Aviation Artists show a few years ago ,no surprise really , lots more original artwork on the Gava web – http://www.gava.org.uk website – their annual exhibition opens tommorow , some super pieces of original art and many affordable .
I dont have the wallspace or money to buy a lot of aviation art but I did buy Robert Taylors “Return of the Belle ” many moons ago . Sometimes when you see a fantastic piece you just have to have it !

aviation art
Some great images I hadn’t seen B4 Thanks . the market seems to be flooded with aviation art prints – i wouldn’t be surprised if everyone has run out of wall space !.My fave artist has to be John Young and Charles Thompson
will attach one of my own – B17 over Bolivia 1976 – it was fun doing the Mountains :), will write more about this interesting topic in a bit
Ron
Bolivian B17’s
What got me was they just hauled quartered beasts straight on to the B-17 with no refrigeration or air-conditioning to preserve it (South American climate and all !!)
😮
Yeah – there was no refrigeration at all – i guess the ageing process for the Meat started straight there , its amazing that the last B17 was in service there till the mid late 70’s .The B17’s look cool in their civil livery
Bolivian B17’s
Great painting go4b17, Like it! Done any others?
