Pakistan has been saying unless Israel turns back on technology and security collaboration with India, they will be punished one way or another.

Shaheen-II for the first time gives Pak a solid mach-7 reach upto tel aviv.

Hence Pak has today become a “player” on the middle-east stage as well.

Saudi arabian CSS2 are inoperational now. They have been paying > $1 b/annum to Pak in free oil and other benefits for quite a while now..atleast 1998. covert help is there too. Pak can easily transfer a few to KSA now. or get more money from USA
for not doing that – seldom has anyone got so much for NOT doing certain things :p

The PA armd brigade in KSA can facilitate the ins and outs , site security.

One nice , big happy family we all are…joined by bonds of trust and sharing risk.

oh yes, they considered the martian x-plane too during the 15 year process stalled mainly due to lack of funds. both were deemed not mature enough – didnt have an army of reference accounts like Hawk.

yes at one point the L-159 was also in running. being partly US owned, they must have done that to improve its chances.

the sloppy program manager who didnt tie up the loose end
should get a demotion if he’s still around. but no point in acrimony now for both sides, time to throw in some extra $$ and drive to conclusion.

LCA stuff were sanctioned but released later in 2002 I think. thereafter india ordered engines.

for Hawk I think some US parts were to be replaced by EU parts
and a british govt guarantee was sought on the issue before deal was finalized.

$50mil is peanuts for such a large and long term deal. it will be worked out after some haggling. Bae will come in a bit low and India will pay something.

Indo-Brit misunderstandings are not new, there was a big flap
in early 80s about the Adour809 -vs- Adour811 issue in our Jags.

its just heresay at this point from unnamed sources about the
    ammo failure.

missiles have a certain shelf-life and a certain number of landings
before they must be retired or totally refurbished. Most non-rich AFs are stingy about live-fire because they cost lot of money.
so I would think the oldest missiles are selected for these kind of exercises.

when the boeing ALCM was introduced, I believe USAF toyed
with the same idea for B747 for around 3 years spending money
on studying the issue. eventually it was abandoned as too expensive and B52s were used.

brazil and india could also participate to reduce unit cost, building
one each in their own countries to start with. 60,000t is a decent size and more “logical” than 40,000t…its certainly the next step up for india.

Good luck and good speed to Severnoye.

there will be a triangular shaped array inside the fixed rotodome.
thats why Bereiv is in the loop – for the rotodome.

I think phalcon is a generic name. the chilean purchase is quite old now, things would have changed. Israel itself is planning to install phalcon on Gulfstream jets to replace the E2s.

btw indian officials say the phalcon will help to detect IRBM launches too, which figures because our ground based Green Pine based on similar tech is used in that role.

I remember seeing photos of USAF 707s with that bulbous nose
in the bill gunston book on spy planes & recce aircraft.
a whole apron line of them…

are the bill gunston salamander books available these days on
the cheap somewhere…finest books I ever had. too bad I managed to lose my copies in between several moves.

this not buying a bicycle from Wal-Mart.

three parties are involved Israel, Uzbekistan(ilyushin), Russia.

Uzbekistan first has to complete and suppy IL76 airframes
Russia (beriev) makes structural mods and install Radome
Russia installs and tests new PS-90 engines.
Israel installs L-band radar and EW systems and final systems
    tests.

everything from who gets what % of the money to delivery
schedules between the 3 of them had to be worked out.

in contrast the ex-Chinese phalcon used a regular off-the-shelf
A50 airframe I think with the Shmel radar removed and older
    engines.

I expect the formal HAWK deal also to be signed between BAE
and HAL in next 2-3 months. they needed to work out the license
production aspects of the deal and supply of parts.

its final now. no more paperwork.

Israel Aircraft Industries is to provide the Indian Air Force with three advanced Phalcon early-warning spy planes, for a total purchase price of $1.1 billion – the largest ever for Israel’s thriving security export industry.

The final agreement was signed Friday afternoon in New Delhi by IAI CEO Moshe Keret and the head of the Indian Defense Ministry’s procurement division, M. C. Mahopatra. Details of the deal were finalized during a visit by Sharon to India several months ago.

The payment for the planes is to be spread over a number of years. According to IAI insiders, India will pay around 25 percent of the sum, some $300 million, as a down payment, and the IAI will officially enter the order in its books.
