how many ships or targets have the chinese ASMs sunk ?

one hopes the PN goes on more than “russian ASMs wont work”
    faith-based-CIWS rotfl.

how effective is the israeli Harpy anti-radiation drone ? speed x range x payload ?

india is supposed to have some carried by Dornier do228 EW a/c
but I have never seen photos or specs.

the AS6 was liquid fuelled and cumbersome. needed prep time.

for carriers I’d work with Granit+IIR

is the ALARM considered superior to HARM due to its loitering capability ?

for Python5 do they claim the bulbous seeker head has > 180′ FOV to permit ’round the corner shots’ in crossing engagements (remember Top Gun – *ducks for cover*) ?

matt, the faster you go in terminal phase it makes interception
and detection more difficult..defender has less time to get his act together and less time to release missiles and bullets ur way. a ‘smart’ missile at 20kmph would be very much more manouverable but a CIWS closed-loop gun will neatly shred it from end to end.

its was for a good reason the carrier killer Granits are fast and
    heavily armoured.

the best defence against smaller/slower missiles like NSM-IIR is not
decoys but to zimbly shoot it down!

but for small fry ships its economical to use smaller missiles. Against a alerted Type45 or LCF time to roll in the heavy armour.

how fast does the NSM approach – can it beat back a barrage of
ESSM/SA13/barak guided by a combo of radar/optical + 40mm CIWS with smart AHEAD type ammo.

Dont forget the Klub – economical cruise for 250km, then sea skimming Mach3+ for the small terminal stage.

India already has 4 Kilos and 2 frigates armed with this puppy
and 1 kilo + 1 frigate more under refit/due for delivery this year.

I kinda like the Klub better than Brahmos. unlike brahmos it
can launched from conventional 21″ torpedo tubes.

honestly unless its exported, 1 exocet is plenty for the kind of ‘terrorist carrying FACs/motorboats/dhows/sampans’ the french navy rafales will encounter.

I am all for cost cutting and just hanging 8 rocket pods and 2 large cluster bombs off it.

brahmos work was covered up under the red herrings Sagarika
    and Koral in 1990s.

fwiw, indian media says russia supplied
    -airframe
    -ramjet engine
-launch system techology (fabricated by L&T -a indian co)
    -warhead

    india was supposed to supply
    – tatra truck – license made for various purposes
    – guidance system (naval version tested, land attack in progress)
    – perhaps the networking system to tie many TELs into a net.
a long pole antenna is prominent in the TEL when firing.

some russian scientists also work in india under the project
    from what sources claim.

    much details here:

for smaller ships & jets I choose the new 180km range Exocet provided they install a IIR seeker and mid-course update module
    and a RAM coating.

Multirole, MAD acts as a fence against high levels of escalation, not against low-level terrorism.

Thats not a theory, but what has been seen in practice on the subcontinent. MAD has been in place there atleast since 1988.

Some other factors like international politics, economy, social issues, local politics, who rules at what moment, conventional armed forces (im)balance these are also factors in peace/war between nations.

Fortunately, Pak seems willing to make peace on the kashmir issue these days , talks will go on….

Kussi, the one in 2000 parade was a mockup not real.

Notice has been served to Washington not even to think about
touching Pak nukes now, or Israel will be punished atleast.

local AJT is only feasible after we finish the IJT. It has completed ~80 testflights and 2nd prototype with the production avionics is being made ready for 1st flight. expected completion of tests is 2006.

Only after that HAL will have spare cycles to look at turning it into a twin-engined AJT. it will likely be done as 66 Hawks is too less
for a large and growing AF.

we need any AJT now. 2012 is too late. hence the Hawk.
