a few yrs ago IN removed all numbers off its subs so externally not possible to identify which Kilo or U209. the reason is probably cause some Kilos are upgraded with new eqpt and Klub while rest are awaiting their turn — they dont want anyone to know which is sailing out. the IN dockyard in bombay is clearly visible from nearby highrise buildings including a seaside 5* Taj hotel also known as “spy central” 🙂

    IN news and discussion

IN has a revamped webpage now. The main plus points are
a one stop listing of inventory, photos of most of the ship
crests and some rare photos not found in other pages wrt IN.

do TVC , canard equipped ac have better ability to point their nose anywhere to bring target within FOV of the HMS system ?
does TVC give tighter turns in the horizontal plane or the same radii of turn but higher speed ?

    curious minds want to know.

    found this in a dictionary:
Noun 1. cobber – Australian term for a pal
buddy, chum, crony, pal, sidekick, brother – a close friend who accompanies his buddies in their activities

RN has given up operating air launched ASMs I think and not much stress on ship launched either. Their main anti ship tool is SSNs which is ok if you have a bunch of good SSNs like they do.

the MAKO design was a bit bizarre jmho. who needs stealth in a AJT ? in buying AJTs most people want function, safety and cheap to operate in large nos as assets. stealth, fighter radar, BVR etc are extra bells-n-whistles few are willing to pay for.

    > pretty obsolete in comparison

which isnt suprising because it is mid 1980s tech and no upgrades since then.

even the little IN Dornier DO228 with MOSP have far superior intel gathering abilities.

what does Stg3A contain ? the -21U has none of the modern radars, avionics, pods and munitions that can truly make a pilot combat ready. Other than a raw speed advantage over the Hawk it really has nothing to offer over continuing to use Hawks on Stg3a jmho. the Hawk probably has a far better
training cockpit with MFDs and simulations than 21U.

for supersonic ACM training prior to posting into sqdns I feel
using a limited pool of 2-seater Jags/M2K/Mig29 is a better and safer soln than continuing with the ancient -21U.

Does RAAF F-18 already field paveway kits and GPS guided munitions for bread and butter work ?

btw what does the aussie word “cobber” mean as in “good on yer cobber” – I recall from my huge collection of Commando comics which had stories on aussies fighting in Tobruk.

are the ADS and CVF of the same length ?

the CVF however being 60K looks like a much wider ship overall with
the wide part extending all the way down to the stern. It maybe better
able to accomodate the wingspan of E2 wrt parked aircraft in the rear.

lets wait and watch. with Unkil moving onto EM cats and relations quite good at the moment, they maybe willing to supply a steam cat . generating steam on demand without a nuclear reactor steam plant will be quite a challenge I think.

guys take the trade discussion elsewhere please. it disrupts the thread.

Jagan, Mig conversion made sense when the bulk of IAF was Migs. now
that onlee 120 Bisons would be around (say until 2012) and maybe 50
upg Mig27ML, cant the stageIII be done at the squadrons themselves using 2-seaters or better yet use a few 2-seater Mirage2000/Mig29 for the job? both are more reliable than using Mig21.

btw I read the HJT-16 is a direct replacement for the Kirans
so it would move one step up the ladder in the your chart imo.
The Iskras are way long in tooth and dont think poland makes
    new ones anymore.

Status of IAF Jaguars – is the following a correct summary
    ====================================

2 upg prototypes flying and approved but autopilot deal signed with Sagem and not yet added
35 oldest NAVWASS Jags (UK built) slated for upg in phase1

8 of 20 two-seaters built and avionics integration in progress. The
remaining 12 to be delivered in 2004 ?

    19 single-seaters on order.

So in 2006-7 there would be 2 sqdns of upg Jags and 2 new Jag
sqdns with more upg in progress for remainder ~60 DARIN Jags.

Does anyone know the actual inventory of Jags today accounting
    for attrition?
