> Israel is India’s access to advanced western tech
at a reasonable price (compared to france)
minus the lectures & finger wagging (EU minus france)
minus the potential sanctions (Unkil)
mending fences with Israel was the best thing we did. ofcourse continue
to pay lip service to the arab ’causes’ 🙂 to ensure access by our
poor labourers into the arab economies 🙂
getting the 12 Qatari mirages would be a good idea. another sqdn can be
formed to replace a BN/ML/FL sqdn going out of service. with
just 3 crashes in 20 years of service and 90%+ uptime the Mirage
reserves can be kept very low.
Jagan, with pilot training commencing in UK what is the future of MOFTU?
has it been totally disbanded now ?
I very much doubt a STOBAR ship of 250m can launch the E-2. with
just 3-4 max needed, LM has no incentive to come up with any fix to the
problem. They would do something only if the USN needed it.
With an eye to the future India & Russia should get together and design
a new steam capapult system and a associated non-nuclear steam plant
fed by energy bled off a CODAG/COGAG powerplant. Once the initial design is done it can be scaled up and improved as needs dictate.
otherwise Unkil has all the cards. and Unkil isnt out to help us much thats for sure.
there are a lot of unclear things about this article. afaik india wanted the
HDW fuel-cell system in the scorpene but the rest of scorpene as is maybe
with slight change to fire the Klub but thats it.
I read a post on Pakdef yesterday quoted from some aviation mag that
LM is preparing materials to sell E-2 hawkeye to both India and Pak. it said
Pak would operate from ground and could choose used equipment but Indi a wanted new carrier qualified kit.
Doesnt make sense to me since E-2 is going nowhere fast without a catapult and neither AG or ADS will have a catapult. Any IN Awacs would also have to operate from land, and E-2 possess no great advantage over the phalcon for india – its best IN get a couple Phalcons for their own use if they feel the need (!) .
a good paintjob doesnt make a good a/c. It only pumps the morale of web jingos 🙂
the JSF-N is also a one engined plane. Things have come a long way in engine reliability. the Super Etendard has one
engine. so does the Harrier.
I vaguely recall reading a year ago that PAF had selected the Mirage ICMS-Mk1 for FC-1 . It was said not the 2000-9 Mk3 for cost reasons.
So is anything definite known yet about selection of internal self-defence suite of the FC-1 ?
Does the turret greatly affect RCS ? I see the ship itself is non stealthy but the upgraded turrets are all of the new type. is it the standard PLAN turret now ?
newindpress. older Mig27 sqdn numberplated. IAF has
46 Mirages today and will be getting 10 more soon as their
nav kit is updated. so 18 per sq incl reserves.
AF’s Gwalior squadron readies for Mirage 2000H
Wednesday August 25 2004 00:22 IST
NEW DELHI: The IAF’s 9 Squadron is gearing up to replace its ageing fleet of MiG-27s with new Mirage 2000H multi-role fighters.
The Gwalior-based 9 Squadron, code-named Wolfpack, should get a new Mirage 2000H fleet shortly _ sources told this website’s newspaper that they are supposed to be delivered by September.
Confirming the development, IAF sources said: “9 Squadron is already formed at Gwalior and is awaiting new aircraft. There is already a commanding officer and some ground crew, while the rest of the Squadron is in the process of being formed.”
The phasing out of 9 Squadron’s MiG-27s is part of the IAF’s long-drawn drive to upgrade some of its older MiG fleets, even though Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) is currently upgrading existing MiG-27s with DRDO-made avionics systems.
HAL also has license to manufacture MiG-27s in India. MiG-27s are currently in operation across 8 IAF squadrons and the Tactics and Air Combat Development Establishment (TACDE).
Both the Russian MiG-27 and French Mirage 2000 are single engine fighters. The MiG-27, with a maximum speed of 1.6 mach, is a tactical strike fighter, while the Mirage 2000, with a top speed of 2.3 mach, is a multi-role combat aircraft. The Mirage 2000, unlike the MiG-27, can also be refuelled in mid-air. Four Mirages will participate for the first time with the South African Air Force next month, which will also involve being refuelled in mid-air by an IL-78M.
While the MiG-27 is used by only four countries _ India, Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan _ the Mirage 2000 is flown by countries which include France, Greece, Peru, Qatar, Egypt and the UAE.
Presently, the IAF’s 49 Mirages are divided between the 1 Squadron (Tigers) and 7 Squadron (Battleaxes).
as always the Dutch planespotters bag their deer 🙂
I never realized google was admin. sounds like a secretive specwar type to me 🙂
ok…onto the real news, there’s plenty to post everyday.
Sameer with barely 20 flyable ancient Blk15’s there is NO NEED for any specialized aggressor training. Just treat them like the flyweights they are to be nailed and killed in a few days no matter how they duck and weave.
Instead spend $$ on buying a few Su27 and Su30MKK to figure out how the PLAAF flankers operate and teach pilots how to fight flankers. buy that M400 pod and develop countermeasures with israeli collab.
A shirtless man on the street shouldnt be given ‘respect’
ahead of his station. The F-16 equipped (un)friendly AF is
not even within the top10 in asia which in no particular
order is saudis, israel, turkey, UAE, india, singapore, taiwan, china, south korea and japan.
looks like someone is eating hot crow soup now. thanks Sameer.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 4: Pakistan expressed on Monday its angry reaction to Washington’s reported offer of F-16 aircraft to India, declaring it as “very, very disturbing” as it would cause “very, very negative impact on the South Asian security situation”.
Foreign Office spokesman Masud Khan said this when he was asked for a comment at his weekly news conference on a Washington report about the supply of the highly rated combat fighter aircraft by the US to India after Pakistan was refused delivery of several squadrons of the same kind of aircraft by the US administration over a decade ago.
The spokesman did not spell out any steps from the Pakistan side to persuade the US administration to halt the reported supply of F-16s to India.
In reply to a question on the reported impending visit of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to India, Mr Masud Khan termed it a serious development for the region and said the “burgeoning Indo-Israel defence cooperation” would have a negative impact on the security situation in South Asia.
