Austin, many details in the article are the same , sometimes word for word from the Akula page on FAS.
    http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ship/row/rus/971.htm

so there can be three views on this
    (1) it really is a akula/svero offshoot design using much the
same machinery and design concept from the same bureau, that
sengupta was given some info and pointed to FAS to pickup the
    details
    (2) some kinda elaborate psyops by GoI to see who moves after stone
    thrown into the pond 🙂
    (3) a fishing expedition by using sengupta to see how GoI
responds (recall Sawhney the same guy who claimed no arjuns were being produced is the editor of FORCE).

(1)+(2) with some fudging of real details on (1) is also a possibility and I am inclined to believe that combo concept — for now.

Imo there is a kernel of truth in the article about the weapons fit, ship weight and what its based on, the historical details…but sengupta who apparently also stole Rupak’s IAF article without credit probably had no real details on the powerplant other than a string like “OK-650B” so he stole liberally from FAS.

2007 looks like hull launch with reactor . machinery , weapons
and sensor fitting would be another 3 yrs for a ETD sea trials
date of 2011 if all goes well.

design seems the hybrid SSN+SSGN concept everyone is signing
on to now. Sverodobinsk derived design was a nice idea — so the
rumours were true though I was very skeptical of its obese 12,000t original size for IN 🙂

coming out in public means they are confident now sanctions and
other machinations wont have an adverse impact anymore.
foreign intel agencies must have known all this for sometime now. the
CM mentioned is probably a new version of Popeye Turbo.

meantime here is something on the 3M14E . pls do not repost
    elsewhere.

    JANE’S MISSILES AND ROCKETS – AUGUST 01, 2004

Novator shows Club land-attack cruise missile
    Miroslav Gyürösi

The Yekaterinburg-based Novator design bureau has displayed the latest
    3M14E
subsonic land-attack cruise missile for the Club-S/Club-N naval missile
system, writes Miroslav Gyürösi. The missile exists in two versions –
    the
3M14E for submarine-launch and the 3M14TE for surface ships.

Designed to be fired from standard 533mm torpedo tubes, the missile is
almost identical in shape to that of the Club-S/Club-N 3M54E1 anti-ship
missile. Pre-launch preparation and handling are done using the same
hardware as is used for the other missiles of the Club-S/Club-N system.

The only difference between the two land-attack variants is that the
    3M14E
can be launched from a depth of 30-40m below the sea surface, while the
3M14TE surface ship version is compatible with vertical or slant launch
    from
the TPS (transportno-puskovoy stakan) transport-launching container.

The 3M14E and 3M14TE are intended for use against stationary ground
    targets
such as administrative and economic centres, weapon and petrochemical
storage areas, command posts, seaports, and airports. Once the mission
    data
needed by the mid-course navigation system has been prepared, it is
    loaded
into the missile’s onboard computer prior to launch.

Both versions are launched under the power of a tandem solid-propellant
rocket booster fitted with four small lattice stabilisers. Once the
    missile
has reached flying speed, it is powered by a small turbojet engine.

For most of the flight to the target area, the missile flies
    autonomously,
following the pre-programmed route and turning points. Once over land,
    it
uses a terrain-following flight path that will make it a difficult
    target
for enemy air defences. This low-level flight mode poses a higher load
    on
the wings and missile structure than flight over the sea surface, so
    the
land-attack missile has slightly redesigned wings of shorter span and
    deeper
chord, plus a stronger structure. A jam-resistant radar seeker is used
    for
    the final attack phase.

    3M14E cruise missile basic characteristics
    Missile length – 6,200mm
    Missile diameter – 534mm
    Missile launching weight – 1,770kg
    Range – Up to 275km
Flight altitude over sea surface – 20m
Flight altitude over ground surface – 50-150m
    Missile flight speed – 650-865km/h

    3M14TE cruise missile basic characteristics
Missile length with TPS container – 8,916mm
    TPS container diameter – 645mm
Missile weight together with TPS container – 3,205kg
    Range – Up to 275km
Flight altitude over sea surface – 20m
Flight altitude over ground surface – 50-150m
    Missile flight speed 650-865km/h

every IN ship is likely to retain a strong ASW capability as thats
the main threat perception in IOR.

I think he meant the P17 article I had sent out to a few…

Aster30 has apparently been demo’ed to the IN and IN wants it.
Its upto the Govt to find the funds and sign a deal. the time of
signing will determine its entry point ship.

its those 10 M2K ordered in 2000(?). air chief says the TACAN is
not upto expected std. I dunno if its the same as on existing fleet
and what its exact fault is.apparently the 10 a/c are all
dressed up and ready in france.

IAI is now deeply involved in the Dhruv pgm. they will supply the mission avionics for israel and any other future intl customers..customers can choose what they need from israel’s wide pool of eqpt.
IAI is probably also supplying some kit for the dedicated gunship version of the Dhruv (tandem two-seater) whose work is now in progress.

the powertrain of the ADS and Cavour being the same kit probably
was the big factor. since Cavour will be coming out in 2007 they
are betting all problems will be nicely resolved for ADS to ride
    piggyback.

carriers + UCAV + fighters. UCAVs are useless unless you can take
    them where they are needed.

carriers will be around for atleast 150-200 yrs if the world lasts that long. maybe after that trans continental UCAVs will be commonplace but not before.

and I being the indian finance minister and defence minister combined, my opinion is ofcourse the final and true decision making authority in the land!

I feel so ’empowered’ today – can I also be a moderator 🙂 hey no harm in asking!

one ADS isnt the end of it. I forsee them building a second replica between 2013-2020 using exp. of first one to cut a couple years off the timeline.

After 2020 the economy will be ready to finance a couple of “true CV” in the 60-70,000t range each with 60 planes.
