everyone spies on everyone. thats the reality.

I know of a certain El Presidante whose brothers, mother and son supposedly hold US passports while he rules a country that can at best
be called a “rogue nation”. he shall remain unnamed for now 🙂

the extent of US leverage and penetration among developing countries
    is quite frightening.

actually ELP your idea of using only hi-sortie airframes in a crushing 2-3 day attack by India has been used in a book thats
just come out. Bisons will have only one role — flying short on-demand point defence missions over cities and other targets freeing up the rest of fleet for all the good things suggested. Ofcourse they have grave limitations when faced with PLAAF Flankers on deep strike sorties but until the LCA comes along they are only show in town. india has a lot of very costly targets quite close to the borders like a $6 bil petro-chem complex the largest in asia barely 150km from Pak border.

In 4 yrs when the Phalcons start arriving and the Jag/Mig27
upg completion permits heavier damage to be inflicted the need for this “last line of rear defence” will decline. the chances of “leakers” getting the rear and inflicting disproportionate damage would be quite less if they are picked up the moment they take off.

same old same old “only US/japan can do it theory”. when confronted with evidence to the contrary people get into denial mode.

Among the photos the one with the huge air intake and tiny fuselage is a ramjet plane by Nord aviation france.

I read an interview with the head of saturn-lyulka (may have been posted in here somewhere). he said that sealing the moving joints between the TVC nozzle and the body took some work – it was not easy but they did it. They did initially experiment with a 2-D flat TVC nozzle as on F22 but decided a 3D nozzle was better.

a few hundred spread all over is a decent sample size. Use the attrition/hr counts to compare. All the F-16 operators with the exception of a few like Pakistan are well-funded and decent AFs having good stds.

Nobody can give a good answer until the final config is chosen and production starts.
a provisional figure is $22 mil (excludes munitions, service cost etc that are usually part of unit cost in import deals).

    > forget mission profiles

yeah sure, a AF which sits inside its own cave has a 100% safety record – get it ?

your talent for misrepresentation and “connecting” together disparate events to hide
PAFs embarassing state of current nudity is truly unique. I will leave it at that 🙂

back to the thread for me.

reading the link embedded in the article NOWHERE does it claim all these seven will be anywhere near china, they will be in the four corners of the globe. I guess the chinese like to think of themselves as constantly under siege from big bad unkil or what ?

read the link, zero mention of china…there’s an exercise in the gulf of guinea near AFRICA.

Kanwa must be smoking some strong dope to misread such a clear article.
This throws mud on all their other claims wrt china.

moving away to another issue , some mil newsgroups were abuzz with
a interesting concept few yrs ago.

    * Using 10,000 unmanned microlight a/c to attack a CVBG. Each would
be a passive system homing in on co-ordinates provided by third party sensors and use a small IIR type seeker to identify and crash into targets carrying a man-sized explosive charge one presumes.

Each Burke has 90 VLS cells and a Tico about 120. assuming a CBG has
3 such ships, at the most they can fire 120*3 = 360 SAMs. assuming 50% SM2 and 50% quad-pack ESSM the number increases to 180+180*4 = 900 SAMs … I propose each SAM hits just one target and
always hit these low-flying plasticky low-RCS targets.

So that leaves 9100 “ASMs” moving at 40mph for the Phalanx CIWS to
deal with. Targets can be engaged only at around 2000m I think and
each ships has just 2 ciws.

the carrier can also scramble a few fighters say 10 and these could bag 60 more.

Still 9040 ASMs boring in 🙂

..in keeping with the greater number of IAF ground attack sorties.
I see that a lot of a/c were lost attacking PAF strongholds like sargodha…if IAF had chosen not to press home multiple attacks their losses would have been less…but damage within india by PAF a/c freed up for strike duties would be more. you choose the best of two alternatives and do what you can.

PAF also got in a couple of good strikes in 65 with serious losses on the
    ground.

(and I am not getting into an argument on kills, claims and sources)..but
thats the general trend – unless one has total airsuperiority or very superior A2G a/c then losses will climb with the number of A2G sorties.

well your figures themselves prove the Gnat got a better record against the Sabre – technically a much superior a/c between 65 and 71 conflicts. nobody had given it a ghost of a chance by a paper comparison. the F-104 and MirageIII are another generation ahead of Sabre and the disparity is wider.

you have yourself proved the case.

which (if true) is very creditable for a simple guns only fighter with no night flying. how many Gnats did the Sabres shoot in return ?

I seem to recall in 1971 day1 about 4 (or was it 2?) sabres were shot down by
Gnats flying from Calcutta in the east, the future PAF ACM being one of them (he was made POW and returned in a few months).

Jagans list gives 1 Gnat shot by a F-86 (srinagar).

but doesnt Japan avoid using A2G weapons to appear “peaceful” ? their focus
seems to be on anti-ship work, ASW and air-to-air. Do they have laser pods and LGBs ?
