IAF has 28 IL76 in the old batch. of the 6 IL78 AAR, 4 have apparently been delivered. 2 of these 6 were combi-AAR-cargo if I recall.
whoo scary, well time for me to get back to work. friday -> I can abandon my post(er cube) and head home sooner.
Zzzzzzzzz……you have gnawed and bitten at kashmir for 58 yrs with
nothing to show for it other than a army of freelance Jihadis who are plying their trade in your premier city Karachi now 🙂 India doesnt want the 30% of Pak-kashmir back, Pak had made it its life’s mission to get 70% India-Kashmir back.
Pardon me while I get back to sleeping.
I just wandered into this thread. why the hell are you indians wasting your time here ? look at the picture in 2010 if the Gripen deal is signed and all is done and delivered in next 5 yrs.
(a) PAF – 40 gripens and 5 Ereyie(say) + 20 FC-1 as the “high end”
(b) PLAAF – 400 Flankers, AAR, 3-4 AWACS (Nanjing model!) , 50plus J-10
a lot of people in history have died while fixated on the decoy while
ignoring the cavalry ‘turning their flanks below the ridgeline.
You decide whos the bigger dog, the bigger teeth and the bigger threat
to India. make sure to allocate ur cpu cycles accordingly.
having a bigger & more powerful AF compared to a economy 7 times smaller is EXPECTED. Pls focus on (b) and how to deal with a economy 2x India’s size and defence spending supposedly 3-4x.
snecma already has a 2 yr old R&D center in bangalore.
http://www.indiainfoline.com/bize/ecma.html
“Snecma has around 50 years of relationship with presence in India. From a buyer-seller relationship, our presence in India has evolved towards a two-way approach, the co-development of the Shakti engine with HAL being one of the most significant example.
….
Some of the major strengths of Snecma Aerospace India are the development of embedded software, development of scientific codes, dimensioning of specific parts of the engines requiring multiple skills such as stress analysis, vibration and fluid mechanics, and CAD/CAM design. At the moment SAI caters to the need of Snecma worldwide operations and is involved in high profile projects such as the CFM56 family of engines, the GP7000 engine for the Airbus A380, the development of equipment for the Boeing 7E7 and the SM146 engine for the Sukhoi Russian Regional Jet.
HAL and Snecma to form JV….hmmm so thats why HAL is in process of
setting up a large independent CNC Machining center lately….

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, the public-sector defence undertaking, is in talks with Snecma Aerospace, a French aero-engine maker to set up a production unit in Bangalore for civil aircraft engine components.
“We will first start machining for engine blades in large volumes…they will bring the forgings, we will machine it,” HAL chairman N R Mohanty told reporters in Bangalore on Thursday.
The joint venture firm, for which investment plans have not been finalised, may initially hire factory space in Bangalore and later expand its operations, he said.
“We are going to finalise at the Farnborough Air Show (in Paris) next month,” Mohanty said, adding the investment would be shared equally between the two companies.
Besides Snecma, the European helicopter major Eurocopter and Israeli avionics firm Elbit have expressed interest in setting up joint ventures with HAL.
“All the joint ventures will have us on their board, but will have an independent management structure. HAL will not interfere in the day-to-day affairs of the JV,” Mohanty said, adding that HAL had been in talks with the three firms with a view to finalising the ventures.
Eurocopter is interested in outsourcing helicopter sub-assemblies and structural parts from India and Elbit is looking at jointly developing avionics for both the Indian and global markets.
Mohanty said HAL would involve private firms in building Saras aircraft for the civilian market and was a keen participant in developing the multi-role civilian aircraft.
Steve, if someone places an order today for 30 ASW configured NH90 what is the earliest they can deliver ? the 2015 date is indeed amazing…is it a funding or production bottleneck?
to the indian posters -> please dont get into a flame war.
IAF stopped worrying about PAF in early 1990s and shifted to
worrying about PLAAF. nothing has happened to change that perception yet.
congrats to PAF if they can get the Gripen.
> F-7GPs PAF has inducted are more then enough to take on IAF MIG-21s
er how? the Bisons have a superior radar, better avionics, a BVR missile (AA12), a better WVR weapon(AA11), HMS, auto chaff and flare dispensers and a modern RWR and SPJ.
most impartial observers would say the Bison would have a decisive advantage over a -PG in anything but a guns-only dogfight!
out of the below, the UH-1 and AH-1 are going to be given for
free I think. the Bells and the Mils both in civilian config have/will be paid for.
40 Bell 406s
26 Bell 412s
40 UH-1s
40 AH-1s
24 MI-17s
the article is more a statement of desire than reality. Hawk is in, Yak is out.
But I do agree that russia and israel have the deepest level of co-operation with india, followed by france. Russia will supply the AL-55 engine for IJT.
do any of you mirage experts know the condition and age of these airframes ?
No I dont recall the article.
Matt probably. the base belongs to a su30 #24 sqdn now.
IAF Mig25-R have flown over Pak and possibly Tibet. one publicized incident was
in 1998? it flew at mach2+ 70,000ft over Islamabad. intercepting such
targets are very difficult.
it was a very special squadron, only squadron leaders and above got to fly!
