the AESA F15c were not used. that much was clear from the PACOM site
    and the sqdn number details.

if its DSP applications then such long word-lengths are standard.
widely used in SIGINT type gear and I suppose radars too. I have
no doubt the f22 will sport the best computing system money can buy, but other
nations like france and israel could come up with something similar if they had the same budget and platform.

$130m is around twice the cost of Rafale/EF isnt it ? I doubt anyone but
saudis or japan could afford to actually buy this thing so chances of unit
cost decrease by foreign sales (jsf, EF, f15) is simply not there.

shades of the hyper expensive B2 fleet.

its must be noted the Congress govts approved the purchase of
all western a/c in inventory – jaguar, M2K, sea harrier, dornier228 Also stuff like
U209 subs and the famous Bofors FH77B 155mm howitzers. so there’s nothing inherently pro- or anti-western in them inspite of some “fond hopes” expressed here. while expressing “token support” for the palestinians they were busy shoring up ties with israel way back in the mid80s.

they are every bit as crafty as the previous govt. more so
I’d say by virtue of long experience.

    > if T-72s is as good as T-90,

wrong again! here are the diffs I know of:
    1. T90M india purchased has a welded turret. T72 has a weaker cast
turret. photos have been posted in tank-net.org
    2. T90M has a more modern gun
    3. T90M has better quality of armour
    4. T90M has a 1000hp engine, T72 has 750hp
    5. T90M can be fitted with Shtora (though india has not done so yet)
    6. T90M for india has been fitted with french optics and FCS. infact
Simon Tan over at tank-net.org was claiming its the same FCS and
commanders sight as on LeClerc MBT.
    7. T90M has ERA from the start.
    8. T90M has the gun fired ATGM

T90M in indian hands is far superior to the old T72s already in
service. Some T72s also being upgraded with new ERA, comm & land
nav system, polish DRAWA FCS etc. but weaknesses like cast turret will remain ofcourse. another incarnation is Tank-Ex a T72 chassis fitted with a Arjun turret. This is set to undergo extensive trials this summer and winter in harsh field conditions.

I dunno where chinese web experts get their data from, but India has well established
repair facilities for all the eqpt it fields with some notable exceptions for small volume eqpt like Mi26 helicopter (these are flown to russia for overhauling).

Also hundreds of thousands of INSAS have been built and are being used today – nobody is going to put their life on line with a bad rifle. Search in gettyimages.com
for “india army” to satisfy yourself. Optical sights are being issued something which
cannot be said for the obsolete G3 fielded in our neighbour.

Arjun MBT has already entered service and 56 have been produced with around 108
more to go in the first tranche. Production is on. It has better kit than the T90M which
is the “lo” end of the mix. with israeli collab the LAHAT ATGM has been successfully
testfired (longer range than Reflecks on T90M) and a active defence system is in
    the works.

Sorry its tiring to deflate baloons but quite necessary ….

considering it will have a 10-12 yr test pgm before entering service and if it meets
the stated perf objective maybe India would join the project and use it as the successor & supplement of MKI for A-2-A work from 2020 onward ?

MCA is onlee supposed to be designed for A-2-G role so India sure needs a stealthy
    fast successor to the MKI.

pervasive obesity is a uniquely american problem 🙂 too much TV,
too much food at dirt cheap prices, and too much car car not enough walk walk.

a few backfires make no difference . they are large complex a/c probably needing high
downtime. So you’d need 20 to have say 10 available to go at anytime.

I dont really see what a backfires bring to table for IN.
