Kopyo isnt being considered. Pv2 is supposed to fly sometime
this year.
the PV1 has 2 MFDs and some analog instruments, same as the TDs. the PV2 has the production std 5 MFDs and will take the radar in nose. so I figure some amt of avionics testing followed by radar and weapons trials. Also field trials in bad weather, night and hot-n-high.
I think the PV2 will be identical in structure and electronics to
the first production run.
plawolfs explanation sounds reasonable. the unfinished airframe
being chinese property would have been returned from israel and
had the structural work completed.
but we might still see the ordered A-50 deal go through as it
takes time to create and test the whole system – the radar itself would need extensive testing in all types of terrain and weather.
Jagan is quite reliable, so you are right, though I have grave
doubts whether you are indian to say ‘we’ . acc to his post @ BR.

The Financial Year 2003-2004 ended yesterday, and those following the IAF accidents would see that the previous year FY2003-04 has been the Best year in terms of low number of accidents for over a decade if not more (maybe the best for the last fifteen years for which we have data)
Just 14 accidents in the year. of which 11 are frontline combat aircraft. There is the sad factor of the human component – loss of aircrew lives – But the silver lining is that less crashes translate into lesser number of fatalities. while four fighter pilots were killed, another four pilots were lost in training accidents. two each in a helicopter and a Kiran accident.

The Hindu newspaper. Harry was on the dot. 200-210 flights
for FCS and manouver validation.
Bangalore, April 3. (PTI): Tejas, the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft, has completed the technology demonstration and the first phase of full scale engineering development activities with the completion of over 200 test flights.
Three aircraft, the technology demonstrator-1 (TD-1), the technology demonstrator 2 (TD2) and the Prototype Vehicle-1 (PV1) have flown a total of 125 hours and completed 204 flight test sorties including 35 supersonic flights, an Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) statement said here today.
ADA, the Bangalore-based DRDO outfit, has designed and developed the indigenous tailless delta-winged multi-role aircraft and a limited series production of eight aircraft is being concurrently produced at Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.
Tejas, meaning Radiance, has reached a speed of 1.4 Mach (Speed of sound is One Mach) and an altitude of 15 km.
“The supersonic dash at high and medium altitudes, the climb with full afterburner to service ceiling (15 km), barrel and Cuban rolls and high angle of attack and high `G’ manoeuvres have been successfully demonstrated in the flight tests,” it said.
Six IAF pilots have done the flight tests of these aircraft that made its maiden flight in January 2001.
Tejas, powered by an American GE-404 engine, has to undergo tests of about 1,500 to 2,000 hours to attain certification which is expected by 2007 and HAL plans to deliver the eight aircraft by around the same time.
the wreckage has been found. both the pilots are assumed gone.
Flt Lt Gagan Oberoi and Flt Lt Mayank Mayur – may their souls
rest in peace.

it is used to survey everything to space, including incoming SLBMs.
range is a awesome 5500km. on a taiwan mountain this can
monitor chinese missile tests deep in the interior (which US would like).

‘modified’ pavepaws indicates improved radar and C3I.

Third Indian frigate to be commissioned this month
MOSCOW, APR 2 (PTI)
Third Indian stealth frigate, “Tabar” is to be commissioned later this month at Russia’s naval base Blatiisk in Kaliningrad.
‘Tabar’ is third in the series of three Krivak class stealth frigates of Project 11356 built on India’s orders by St.Petersburg-based Baltiisky Zavod shipyard, sources said Earlier, last year Russia had delivered “INS Talwar” and “INS Trishul”, under the USD 1 billion deal signed with Russia in 1997 for the development of three new generation stealth frigates for the navy on the basis of Krivak project.
pave paws is a huge system. fas.org has photo of it in Otis afb at cape cod, MA (same one where 9-11 ANG F-15s scrambled from)
does israel also have a smaller, cheaper aerostat system. press reports six months ago from halwara afb reported them setting up a aerostat system from israel – it cant be the ones mentioned here. it said the installation would be complete in six months which is about now.
I have already posted this in “indian defence news thread”. pls delete or abandon this one.
can a FLIR pod help in blind navigation through thick clouds,
mountains and fog ? the lack of a FLIR/terrain mapping radar
probably killed these pilots.

Two Indian Air Force jaguars have crashed in Kashmir.
Both were on training sorties and had taken off from Srinagar to Ambala when the two crashed in Sonmarg.
Two Jaguar fighters go missing near LoC
Press Trust of India
New Delhi, April 2: Two IAF Jaguar fighter aircraft on Friday went missing in bad weather during training sortie near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, an IAF officer said.
The fighters have been out of radio contact after getting airborne along with two other Jaguars at 1234 hrs, IST while flying over Gund in Srinagar area, the officer said.
“The four aircraft were on a training valley flying sortie during which they encountered bad weather. While two Jaguars managed to get out of the bad patch and return to the Srinagar air base, two others got stuck in bad weather and lost radio contact with the ground,” he said.
A massive search and rescue operation has been launched by the Air Force to trace the missing aircraft and the pilots.
the existing PN Sea Kings are bigger and more capable than Dauphin.
well hey dont blame me . I dont know which Brit newspaper has what rep. I x-posted it from another forum.
In what condition are the Sea Kings and Gazelles. with new engines and mission equipment can they serve for say 15 years?
I was thinking of india picking up a few dozen relatively cheaply compared to new stuff like NH90.
