Look I am sorry if this sounds negative to start with.

Actually count up the number of hours of must see footage. Count up the hours per week that YOU are available to watch the material.

Basicly after a month the specialist channel will run out of material.

It would be more viable to run a channel called Planes trains and automobiles (as long as you like trains of course).

So positive end to negative start.

It think the general feeling is that we’d all rather have fewer hours of broadcasting showing new & higher quality content than more hours with the same old stuff

Anyone recall Flying Machines Monthly, VHS, 70 minutes, Issue 1 1995 (which I have) fantastic content. Can’t recall the director but it was great stuff.

Anyway the point is 70 minutes for a month and god knows how much work to create it – at the end of the day someone has to earn a living out of the project. How would you maintain that level of material and interest with a keep fresh factor over time?

Better to have a monthly streamed download on subscription maybe?

There is about 48 hour s worthwhile and affordable video available so how are we going to fill 24/7 with this? Apart from that…………..

    Well

We went, jaded 40 something and enthusiastic 8 year old.

Didn’t know what to expect but both impressed in our own ways.

Last time I saw a Lightning I was eight and it was at Debden so work that one out!

Haven’t got a clue about the workings at B/thorpe however these were our thoughts:

Something happening from when we arrived until when we left.

    Helpful, friendly patient volounteers.

You could touch, feel, smell the aircraft.

Enthusiasm and informality. As one eight year old put it (and this was after a 21/2 hour drive there (and another back) – “the fourth best day out I have had”

He liked the noise, the cockpits the Guppy thingy.

I liked the fact that it was different.

    Well done to those involved.

One critiscism, the bacon rolls ran out before we got to the front of the que.

    Right, let us talk accountability.

When the original hangar was built it had an extra concrete area at the front in order for a planned extension.

What has happened is that the new hangar has ignored this original design feature or that the original design under estimated the potential expansion that would be required. (ie they got it wrong).

Along with the inaccessibility of aircraft in the AAM there are some serious management issues to be questioned.

If any of this had happened at a hospital or similar the media would have become extremely excited.

Regarding the question of cost. I have just had to foot an unrealistic bill (imho) for covering an existing conservatory with roof tiles. The bill before the builders start is for a British phenonamon which none of our historical predecessors had ie building regulations. If the same is true of the new hangar my sympathies are with the IWM. – I regard this issue as completely seperate from aesthetic design and practical use of the buildings.

I think that the problem with the stickies is that a quick flick into the forum does not indicate new postings because the stickies are all you see. This is especially the case if you are using a widescreen laptop.

I accept the reasoning behind the stickies however the logic is flawed when they are perceived by the customer as an irritant. They also seem to have an extremely long shelf life.

Maybe a single sticky thread to which the posts, which are at present individual threads in effect, are added would be better then we could read/ignore them at our peril. This is a solution used elsewher eon the net.

Might just point out that this is a suitable epitaph for this thread as well:

    “Proud to be English.

Funny you should mention that we thought we just might. How much you charging for the parking ??

I’ll bring some real food from the local butchers mind.

And some local trivia, went swimming at Sizewell last night, scary how the power station warms the water innit?
