Couple of weeks ago saw ‘Sarah’s Key‘ on release day (London Clapham). Very, very good film. Not ashamed to admit I wept a couple of times, as the film provoked thoughts on the Holocaust and that miserable part of Human history. Recommend it hugely. Films like this don’t get the numbers they deserve.

Also watched ‘Amelia‘ recently. Not terrible, but cringed a few times.

Re-watched ‘Dam Busters‘. Need I say more?

Submarine‘ – saw it in the cinema. Very sweet, funny comedy. Great acting from new actors. Must see. Great extras with the DVD too.

Sex Traffic‘ – little known film, from what I can tell. But excellent (and detailed) account of human trafficking. Great acting/script. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0419365/

The 400 Blows‘ – Very popular French movie about a troubled boy with neglectful parents. Very sweet but also quite cynical. Recommend.

    That’s it for now.

Good Lord, we agree on something.
Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger did always push the envelope though.
Sometimes things worked better than other times.
In ‘A Matter Of Life And Death’ things came together rather well I think.
I can’t imagine any commercial outfit putting the money up for films like that now though–sadly.

    A.

It seems to me you don’t watch enough films to make that last comment. There are a LOT of decent independent film-makers/prod co’s around, up and coming film-makers. I think ‘A Matter Of Life And Death’ could be re-made today on a very modest budget. Admittedly it wouldn’t necessarily be an improvement, but i’m just saying that there are people out there making interesting, thought provoking films, they’re just not playing in cinemas worldwide (again though, there are interesting films that do make it onto the world stage, but you just have to actively seek them out). Most films of that nature find an audience online. For starters, look up the indy filmmakers groups on Vimeo, if you’re really interested.

There’s a new trailer with a bit more flying footage, and a bit more dialogue.

Really not sure what to expect from this one. The flying looks average/good, but the dialogue…not period, at all.

BBC reports on anything at all should be regarded with caution, as to the correct info. therein. They just need to fill airtime thats why all of their visual presenters wave their hands/arms about like martial art instructors. If anyone recalls Dan Snow and his third rate commentary on the 25th anniversary fly past of theFalklands war, we were informed that there were no Sea Harriers flying down the Mall as the CAA did not want any single engined a/c over central London (They were all in storage at Shawbury) One minute later he told us about the Navy Hawks in the flypast!! Obviously they were the top secret twin engined Hawks from deepest Devon. This man got the job because of who his daddy is.
The BBC is a public disgrace end of. And i imagine this post will be disappeared before many of our members have a chance to see or comment on it.
    God bless free speach.

I’ll quote it, just because it’s the truth.

Not many I suspect but does that make it ‘OK’ to write posts with no punctuation, capitalisation and little thought to even the basics of English writing? I think not.

I don’t get paid to drive my car, but I still do it with care and attention.

Yes, because you can kill people with bad spelling and punctuation(!)

Not necessarily metal tanks. Sure, the Spitfire main fuselage tanks were Al Alloy, covered with the “self sealing” material, but fuel tanks can/were also made out of rubber, eg the Mustang. The basic principle of a ‘self sealing’ tank is to have three layers; an inner and outer layer of fuel resistant material (synthetic rubber or metal), and a middle (sandwiched) layer that reacts to the presence of fuel, ie it swells on contact, thus blocking off any holes made by bullets, etc. Off the top of my head, I believe the wing tanks an the wartime Spitfires were rubber. What you see in Matthias’ terrific photos is relatively recent modification to put fuel cells in the gun bays to extend the two seater’s fairly woeful range – one has to remember that the front cockpit was moved forward (9″?) and consequently the fuelage tanks’ capacity was reduced.

Would that also be the reason for an adjustable CoG?

we taught them that it was a society where anything is possible , huge debt was ok , everyone can be rich and famous , designer clothes are a must , even if skint still kept up with the joneses , maxing out on credit cards

we failed to say ,” life isn’t like that , sometimes it is s**t and you have to do without

instead through bad parenting , excessive advertising , and yadda yadda yadda

we bred a nation that doesn’t just want the world but two secconds later wants the moon too

but only if it is with someone elses money

sorry but the buck does stop firmly with our generation we have been too soft for too many years !!

    talk about sweeping generalisation.

I’m as pissed off and concerned as anyone, but to say a whole nation is that way is ridiculous.

This if true is shocking, disgusting and should be stopped

    Riot loot sold in Scotland😡

    http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/news/3752622/Riot-loot-sold-in-Scotland.html

Again if newspaper journalists can get pics and details what again are the Police in Scotland doing – Softly Softly as usual.

Nor do I hear any comment from the First Minister:rolleyes:

That pretty much proves the theory a few pages back that while kids were out having a laugh at the expense of the taxpayer, there were organized criminals behind the scenes, making sure they got their share without getting their hands dirty.
