Cartoon??!!! Jeesus.
A great piece of animation, as are all Studio Ghibli films.
I absolutely agree – Studio Ghibli took animation to a whole new standard.
I never took to Flypast as it just told me superficial war stories about things I already knew. I preferred Aeroplane Monthly because of the purely historical articles like the excellent series they did on the 20s and 30s RAF aircraft, but when they started doing those “specials” on common aircraft some years ago I dropped it as well. I couldn’t see the point in spending money on magazines that just repeated what I already knew.
A brave man indeed – I have his book.
Certain production techniques like the use of slave labour to the point of death certainly weighed against them – also Nazi Party membership and affiliations at the highest level probably didn’t help. Von Braun and his team were grabbed by the Yanks for their rocket skills but for several years after the war were kept in isolation such was the rightful repugnance felt by many towards von Braun and his use of slave labour. Besides there really wasn’t much room in the west given our existing design and manufacturing teams had leaped ahead of the Germans. Tank and Messerschmitt’s post war designs were pretty pedestrian, even given the reduced circumstances in which they worked while on the run. Don’t forget that these people made a lot of money out of furthering the Nazi cause and actively sought influence at the highest levels.
This is really fascinating stuff – I look forward to every update. Always been a fan of Meatboxes.
Lovely to see and good work by the people who restored her.
One thing I meant to commend is the wooden intake mouth rings. It is great to see these in place on a preserved example as they are usually the first things to rot away when an aircraft is parked outside.
That’s a tremendous effort, well done so far.
Looks like the green metal version of several small plastic cabinets with trays I have on my work bench to keep spares, small paint tins etc. in with the front of the little drawers appropriately labelled.
Very pleasant.
I’m just suprised how few of them exist internationally, you’d think Japan would want one after pretty much everything that happened in the Pacific.
Would that be with or without blinding flash of light Sir?
😀
Isn’t their march titled Airmen of Harlech?
Alright I’m going 😀
Good grief!!!!! Wikipedia was wrong. 😮
… but it is said (elsewhere and on other forums) that there is enough fabric taken from his last Fokker to cover a Zeppelin. Now that would be unique.
Not unlike the famous quote about the occupants of the Dublin post office in the Easter Rebellion. “30 men marched in and 10,000 patriots marched out” 😀
