Hi there, many thanks for the reply.

The only place that I’ve seen a lap strap like this was in a Horsa Glider (I think its number 3 seat, the single seat behind the pilot).

I’ve just been over it with a magnifying glass, and the only numbers I can read are listed below:

The seat mounting frame is stamped B4956A and 101034

Seatbelt anchorage point on rear is stamped 1010853 B 500 A

Other numbers stamped on the rear of the seat are 10101471, there are a couple of stamped circles with GDR24 inside them

The ribbed part on the rear of the seat is stamped 1010033 B770A

What a mishmash of numbers! 😮

    Merlin XX

The prop came from a Mosquito, I came across it in a ironmongers in Kingsnorth, Ashford. As I was driving past I saw one of the blades sticking through the hedgerow………could’nt believe my luck when I went in there and see what was attached to the other end!:D

The guy wanted 50 quid for it so I payed him there and then, unfortunately we had to cut one of the blades of to get it in the van:mad:( blade now in my museum)

I had the reduction gear bearing from this prop listed on ebay last year (as it broke away when I had to move the prop to repair the paving!) Anyway I got talking to a fellow Ebayer (Peter Grieve) who very kindly supplied me with the following information……..

“your engine was originally built as a Merlin XX, then converted later to a 21.
It was built at Crewe as part of a batch of XX’s and 21’s with engine numbers 48401 to 63701 between October 41 and November 42.
50041 was one of 7 built on 21.12.41 as a XX.”

If your looking in Pete…thanks again for info!

    Whats your prop from Hindenburg?

    Hi all,

Firstly I would like to welcome myself to this site!:D

I have had one dealing with the Do17-P/109 Ebay seller in question but had a very lucky escape!

It was a couple of years back when the “seller in question” listed on ebay a Battle of Britain Bf 109E relic, which some of you may remember, it was a coolant header tank. I won the item and think I bid something like £70 or £80, I sent him a message straight away asking if I could pay by cheque but heard nothing back from him, after a couple more emails and about 2 weeks I did recieve a reply from him which went something like this ” you didn’t pay enough for it and it’s no longer for sale”……….. to say I was livid was an understatement. I have since found out from a friend that the said item was in fact not from a Bf 109E but a 109G. Like I said above I had a lucky escape on that one!

Now however it seems my luck has run out as I read the last post by Tangmere…..

“Since starting this thread I have also been told that an item from the Spitfire Stanford-Tuck baled out of 18 August 1940 has also been offered for sale, and possibly sold, by a certain seller on e-bay. Those with a knowledge of the site, and what was recovered, are all convinced, 100% plus, that the item in question did not originate from there.”

I purchased quite a lot of the “apparent” Tuck relics on ebay last year from who I thought was a trustworthy seller….(of course the seller could have been misinformed when they aquired the relics and from what I’m hearing they could have got them from the other “seller in question.”) but don’t quote me on that…it’s just what I’m hearing!

The pieces I bought where an exhaust stub, piece of canopy, skinning and a large section of Aileron but I now find out that no large pieces have ever been recovered by any of the groups and any large pieces that survived the crash were infact collected at the time.

I’m absolutely livid to the point of getting my angle grinder out today and cutting the lot into little pieces and chucking it in the recycle bin as it is now worthless to me Grrrrrrrrr.
