Would love to see the Herald painted in a classic period 1960’s scheme rather than the horrible Air UK blue which I think does nothing to the lines of the aircraft. How about Autair International? Classic clean and classy lines and very much of the period of the aircraft.
Some very clean bits being recovered here from BK701. There are three parts on Youtube.
I have copied over my original thread below from the Duxford Diary as this seems the most appropriate place for it. It is also nice to hear of the support and interest in the airliners.
Thank god they have got the civil airliners, if not we probably wouldn’t have any is largish numbers in one place. It always frustrates me that “war” is so interesting but the history of the British airline industry and the way it opened the world up to all of us is not celebrated better. I think the Ambassador, Viscount, Herald and York at a minimum should be inside I would go as far as kicking out Concord! She is special but not unique and we have lost too many irreplaceable unique airframes. I would also love to see a centralised airline archive where all the history can be saved but, and correct me if I am wrong, I have a feeling that there just isn’t the interest out there!!!
My father was in the airline business for over 60 years, started at 15 at Heathrow and retired at 76, has loads of archive material, tickets, load sheets, models, signs, advertising, even an airline vehicle, you name it, but where does it go when he does? I just don’t have the capacity to take it all on, I will keep some bits but can’t bare the thought of it not going somewhere that would conserve it and make it available to researchers, but then are there many researchers out there that would justify such an archive?
It’s interesting to think that probably most visitors go the the Imperial War Museum to see Spitfires etc, thanks to DAS their only opportunity to go “in” an aircraft is an airliner, but will they buy the model Spitfire or the Trident model as they leave by the shop?

They didn’t even have to get wet, there is a notice board right next to the pond telling all of its history!!!!!
Looks like he was a mammal hunt, I am sure he will be doing birds next.
I loved the “used” look of Hanger 11’s P40 that was retained for a short period after film work, it somehow look so much better and would love to see more owners adding a temporary “in use” feel to their aircraft even if it was just for one season.
Look here.

Someone seams to think that there will be an Avro “super formation” after take off from Waddington. Seen on the Warplane website for the 21st.
“Thursday August 21 Both Lancasters will land at RAF Waddington and after a short visit, will depart with the Avro Vulcan and two Hawks for a formation flight.
For more information visit the RAF WADDINGTON Website Lincoln, Lincolnshire”
I particularly like the “boot glove” the guy in the mustard jumper in shot one is wearing, maybe an early misinterpretation of the health and safety????
Can’t get lower than this!!!!

Seeing the picture of the Hastings at Catterick on FC brings back memories that are always brought to the fore every time I visit my parents, why? Because on the outside of their downstairs toilet door is the Hastings’ old “toilet” sign on on the reverse is the “no smoking” sign! I was an Air cadet that for one weekend had access to all the wrecks on the Catterick dump to remove any instruments we could use in our ATC simulator and I just “happened” to acquire a couple of souvenirs!
Actually probably not, too wide but what is it?
