The 757 is famed for creating the strongest wake vortices of any commercial aircraft and as such is placed in the ‘Heavy’ category when technically it should be medium.
Vortices come of all parts of the wing and airframe as well as the wingtips. When flaps are deployed you get quite strong vortices off the ends which are most commonly visible on days with high relative humidity.
The 737 has no fuel dumping facility.
Agreed, that’s no illusion.
Whatever they get I hope they paint something interesting to look at on the arse end as that’s all we get to see every time we go to the Canaries. The Islands controllers are really bad for delaying everything else in order to squeeze in Pedro from Las Palmas on a 50 mile final while you drag it in with full flap and burning shed loads of fuel. Wouldn’t mind so much if we weren’t so damned fair back in the UK!
I checked my log books but I haven’t taken G-FCLA into TFS since early 2002. Nice picture though.
Ren – I’m rostered to take a 757-300 into TFS (TCX18K) at about 1425z (then depart 1525z) on the 10th of Feb. Will you still be there?
I would be rather keen to check the nosewheel area for damage. this sort of thing is generally referred to as wheelbarrowing.
That third picture highlights exactly what all the B737NG pilots whinge about with their machine. That is the overhead panel (and most of the systems) are still old fashioned just with some fancy displays on the front.
That ATR picture makes me want too cry! Ouch!
Oh I see  ! Ususally most people tend to photograph airfields when quoting the view from 2 mile finals! I wouldn’t have thought it was too unusual if you were in an amphibian!
I think if it were an Airbus the relevant ECAM action would be CTRL+ALT+DEL!!!
My decision isn’t based on looks but on performance and effectiveness in its role. However if an airline wanted a 30, 50 and a 70 seater…then the Dash series answers your every need very nicely. Can’t think of anything else that accommodates so effectively.
I believe these days under JAR you can solo a powered aircraft at 16 but you need to be 17 to get a PPL.
Best 30ish seater – Dornier 328
Best 50ish seater – Saab 2000
Best 70ish seater – Dash 8 Q400
Anything still running Dart engines needs condemning (and of course ATP’s)! 😀
…and beta software!
damned computers…
Glad to hear it! So long as you have enough altitude to get to a ship you massively increase your survival odds.
If that first picture is 2 mile finals, I’d love to know what on earth in that field of view is considered to be a runway! 😀
