There have been talks between management and VS BALPA reps about dual qualifying pilots on the 744 and 773 if the CAA will swallow it. Rumour has it that BALPA reps will kick it into touch. Quite right too!
Purely personal opinion here (and I didn’t see the program)…Swissair has never really had to answer to anyone as they effectively are the Swiss CAA. Independence from the JAA allows them to do more or less what they like. If they want to change from the manufacturers recommended operation there’s no one to really stop them.
Welcome Jethro. It really is great to have such a well informed person on board. What can you tell me about the planned retirement of Virgins A340-300 fleet and can you shed any more light on B777 orders.
The difference is that instead of trying the original tactics of bulldozing these processes through, the governments are now starting to realise they must work with the airlines to establish proper procedures.
