Yes we were routing from Vienna down to the south of Budapest but the visibility to the North-East was terrific.

Hot conditions or high conditions or hot & high conditions affects all aircraft types similarly, however the more retricted the performance of your aircraft at sea level, the more it will show up with altitude and/or temperature.

I cannot think of any circumstance where an Airbus would gain a performance benefit that would not similarly improve the Boeing’s performance.

Mixtec, is Quito’s elevation above 8400′? If so and American 757’s are operating into there they must be under a relaxed set of limitations compared to JAA rules. This is not impossible as the FAA allows their 757’s to do Mach 0.86 at high level and 370 knots at low level whereas the JAA only allow Mach 0.84 and 350 knots. There is no difference between the airframes as our 757’s that operate with Ryan in the winter can do the higher speeds in the US but must slow down in the UK!

It’s been a very fertile year…especially as 2 other non-aviation friends have had babies as well!

Martin, I always struggled with psychometric tests and built up a bit of a mental barrier about them. Then when I had my Aer Lingus interview coming up (which involved more psychometric testing) a friend told me to get a book on the subject from the library. I think it was called something like ‘keymat testing’ but can’t remember exactly. Basically this type of testing was brought in a few years ago to establish common sense levels in graduates by prospective employers and any books you can get on the subject will prepare you well for your tests at OAT. As Dutchy says there is not always a right or wrong answer but the books will give practice sessions that will allow your mind to get in tune with the process.

That Aer Lingus test was the first psychometric assessment that I have been invited back after and have never failed since!

You’re absolutely right Mixtec. The 757 is limited to operations from a maximum airfield pressure elevation of 8400′ and the preformance figures either require a bl00dy long runway and no thrust derate or a limitation in payload.

As Bhoy says, JNB was always interesting in the A340-300. It became company policy to inform the passengers before departure that the the off run would be abnormally long.

It’s 50:50 whether that was your aircraft. There would have been 2 TCX 757 departures that day, one to LGW and one to MAN.

Airbus had to up the number of overwing exits on EZY 319’s so that they could offer the same seating capacity as the Boeing bid. In fact I believe they went a bit further and offered one extra seat just to really give themselves an advantage rather than just be equal.

No, a LGW 320 will replace the MAN 757. Both 330’s go to LGW and probably a Condor 767 operating from MAN.
