RE: Flight 1
Virgin did it because at the start it was the only flight they did! As a rule of thumb (yes there are a lot of exceptions) odd numbers are westbound and even are eastbound.
RE: Your nearest BIG airport?
Bhoy – When I did my Saab 340 conversion course with Crossair I stayed at the Hotel Jenny between Hegenheim, Hesingue and Hagenthal-le-Bas. Is this near you?

I was making one of my sweeping generalisms!
RE: Downturn in Holiday Bookings
I have heard that all the tour ops are having difficulty getting sales in the south but sales oop north are strong. In the south a man will wait for a late bargain but oop north the factory closes down for 2 weeks on a set date so the family book up their holiday ages in advance. Who says there isn’t a north south divide!
RE: Flight report???????
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-02-03 AT 07:22 PM (GMT)]Quote – ‘As we approached MLA the pilot “missed” the runway, saying he couldnt see runway lights, we later found out from a local who used to work at the airport that there is an illegal race track along side the runway which confuses the pilots (can you verify that Wysiwyg?). We eventually landed on time.’
Yes there is a track (not sure how it could be called illegal?) near the airport but I would very much doubt it would have caused the go around. You said in the next post that ‘it p*ssed down for the first 2 days’ so I presume the weather was pooh when you arrived. It sounds most likely to me that the flight crew didn’t get the required legal visual reference to continue past decision altitude so they were legally obliged to go around.

Yes possibly. You’ve got me thinking now. I was just assuming that it was a new installation at LHR.

RE: The best news I’ve heard in a long time!
I have heard rumours of a TriStar start up for over a year now but that’s all I know.
RE: Increased security at London Heathrow.
I find it interesting that living not far from under the approach to 09 at LHR I have been getting an interference to my TV reception since just before the end of January. The nature of the interference is similar to the style of interference we get from ground movement radar, but not exactly the same. I wonder if this is some sort of monitoring?

Scotland and the NorthEast is currently the strongest sector of the UK in the holiday market at the moment.
