…but British Rail never thought about the passengers views when designing the inter-shitty 146

OK Dave, I’ll let you know next time we’re in. Shame you missed today, it was a very productive session out of Frankfurt.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-11-02 AT 09:58 PM (GMT)]I believe it’s the engines will to live draining away 😉 I couldn’t say for sure but it could well be a breather pipe for the oil system. A lot of jets use a total loss system, I believe.

I wouldn’t of thought that a pair of hairdryers off a 146 would be powerful enough for a Chinook 😉

That jagged black line makes it look like a crash test dummy!

The only other engine option for the 757 is the P&W although it is not very common.
By the way, the GE in the Saab 340 was originally a helicopter engine as used in one of the big Sikorsky’s.

    RE: AZ:Milan or Rome?

Long haul flights from Milan to North America are a pain in the backside (according to a pal of mine who used to fly for them) as you would have to circle to gain altitude in a very heavy plane to clear the Alps before setting off!

Liverpool-Belfast 8 times a day! That short flight is hell for the flight crew in a jet as there is so much to do in so little time.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-11-02 AT 01:36 AM (GMT)]No, on the 757 & 767 the fuel gauges just show a digital readout on the overhead panel which is in whatever units the aircraft is set up to show.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-11-02 AT 11:06 PM (GMT)]I was just about to post the same picture so have this one instead! I believe the airline was in the process of converting from imperial measurements to metric but the pilots and engineers were given different dates for the changeover! The flightcrew requested the engineers to load so many metric tonnes of fuel and the engineers gave them so many imperial tons! Still at least they made it half way!!! Can’t take a joke, shouldn’t have joined!

    RE: Back from Europe

London airports peak at 6am onwards as there is a jet ban before this time. This is a bit of a misnomer as it is not an actual ban just a significantly increased charge to land before this time, so all the trans-atlantics try to arrange their arrivals to be at 6am or after, creating a bottleneck.
