    RE: Back!

Large areas of the North Sea have recently been assigned as training areas for crew testing/converting onto the Eurofighter. The airspace is not enforced all the time so it depends what times your flights were as to how it would have affected you. It is playing havoc with routings for our Newcastle and Glasgow based crews operating to Cyprus, Israel and Egypt.

I heard something today about having broken a secret law. If it’s secret, how do you know not to break it?

    RE: Buran

I did have an inkling it was actually a restaurant but wasn’t confidant enough to say for sure.

Yes Dan, same technique in 2 or 3 engine jets. In 4 engine (wing mounted) jets they recommend the crab technique to avoid scraping an engine pod. The 707 only had a 5 degree roll limit before scraping a nacelle followed by P45 in the pigeon hole. (For non-UK readers a P45 means being fired!)

Actually I’m quite serious. If an eye-catching colour scheme makes you safer for just 1% of the time it has to be worth considering. Doing something is alot better than doing nothing. Don’t forget these guys are still hrting from their loss and will do anything to avoid it happening again. I’d fly a pink neon 757 if it would stop me being involved in a midair.

I should think that after the midair with the Tu154 they are quite keen to adopt a high visibility scheme.

RE: What is your favourite ‘Holiday Airport’ ?

Girona is another undesirable. Bad weather, as you say, high terrain, convoluted procedural approaches, nasty downslope on the shortish southerly runway (which is usually slippery in the rain). And just to make things worse, when you open the cabin door you often get hit with a strange aroma of dog pooh! Must be some sort of sewage plant nearby!
