    RE: Thank you

Yes, I agree. Most bulletin boards suffer from over-moderation but we could actually do with more!

Here’s another clue. A typical pilot who flies commercially all his working life would retire with about 20,000 hours aged 60.

    RE: Airline food

I’m with Grant T. While the JMC food is not as haute cuisine as what I had to serve at Virgin, I find it simply tastier.
The absolutely loser for me is definitely BA, regardless of class of travel. I flew down from GLA to LGW a month or so ago in club and was given a fish dish (no choice available) with bones in it, the sauce had run into everything else and flavourless. BA desserts are always monstrously heavy and leave an oily coating on yout tongue. Yuk!

OK then. Typically a PPL does about 30-50 hours a year and an average glider pilot would do about the same. But who knows if I was typical! Commercial pilots generally do between 400 and 800 hours a year.
Go on, someone have a stab at a date and time, even if it is just a pure guess.

JAG – I find your post very sobering. It makes me realise just how fortunate I am to have lived without the fear of having to go to war myself.

It sends shivers down my spine just looking at it! It features in my top 3 most dangerous airports in Europe.

The same question is bothering a lot of pilots too. After take off airspeed is pretty low (maybe less than a quarter of the cruise speed) so you would think that the effect of control inputs would be nowhere near any structural limit.

RE: Pic of the minute – Edelweiss Air – Airbus A330-243

Yesterday, an Eidelweiss A320 passed 1000′ underneath me set against a crystal blue sea south of Rhodes. Wish I had a camera!
