RE: Running a diesel on cooking oil

They were saying that if you use a non-kerosene based thinner and paid the 26p a litre tax it wasn’t illegal. While they were just using the simple concoction I mentioned earlier, the following website (which I found via a google search using the parameters ‘diesel cooking oil uk’) shows a much more complex veggie recipe!

    And here’s another interesting website

Err…Garry…I think you’ll find as many positive posts as negative ones above. If you discuss western aircraft you’ll get a similar love/hate discussion. Now don’t get me started on the One Four Sick!!!

You’ve got to admit that it was an incredible achievement bearing in mind how little time they took to design it and get it airborne.

Virgin Sun was wound up at the end of the Summer 2001 season. Most pilots were laid off (although those that were previously on the A340 were retained) and the airframes were due to be taken on by Air 2000 but I’m not sure if 911 curtailed that.

I’m more concerned about the CRM of their crews than the equipment. The airframes tend to be cleverly designed but let down by crude engine technology.

The canards were a later add-on to improve low speed handling as you cannot fit conventional flaps to a delta wing.

Must have been about 10 years ago Charles tried using a 146 as an off-road vehicle after misunderstanding the amount of tailwind component on landing. Reasonably minor damage. Game over for royal flying.

UK royalty are no longer allowed to fly the aircraft after Charlie bent one ooop north!

    RE: RM689 To Fly Again

OK, let’s se what can of worms I can open up here

I think it’s time to rethink the way second world war aircraft are displayed. I am getting fed up with seeing Spits, etc displayed as if they were competition aerobatic mounts. This isn’t what they were designed for and is usually the regime under which the fatal accident occured anyway. It’s just not necessary, not wise and a waste of life and machinery. I would prefer to see more realistic action, i.e. a scramble followed by a formation take off, some firing of some weapons (blanks obviously), high speed low level tail chases and maybe at the end a victory roll followed by a hood back low approach and a go around then back to land, taxi in then see the pilot get out, sling his chute over his back and light a fag while the ground crew get ready to patch her up. Now that honours what these aeroplanes did for us.

Lovely picture Kabir. Don’t you think 767’s always look a bit odd with their tilt forward bogies?

Fly one? I’d be scared to walk underneath it!!!
Seriously though I’d love to have a crawl over one and see the design philosophy (or if there is one!).
