I would be gratefull for any information as well as photos on this subject as like I said before, this area is not really well covered…
Examples of interest would be 66 Sqn Hunters and 29 Sqn Javelins at Acklington as well as 6FTS Provosts but basically anything from this neck of the woods!!
Eshott would be a great one to cover as it is now an active airfield again!

Canberra Panel
Yes this is quite true….
It was seized shut and when freed the hinge decided to sheer as was far to gone with corrosion… Any chance of flogging this item to us??

RAF Driffield
It’s terrible that these things can happen to a site of historical importants such as Driffield. Anything that could be done to stop this??
233 OCU
YES, it would be great to have her saved and put back in the colours shown on your photograph!! Glad to be of assistance.

Phil. – See picture, possibly a sad end or could someone save this bird???
P.S. I don’t know why this aircraft was withdrawn from use, possibly some sort of flying accident and then used for spares??
2008
Hi all,
I have heard similar things! If it’s true it will be a shame as it would have been good for them to celebrate the standing down of Tornado F3’s from service in Yorkshire (25(F)Sqn RAF Leeming)

Spares Recovery
Hi all,
I’d just like to add something to this topic…… The Lightinig Association were at the N.E.A.M. this year. With all equipment to hand they took out
bothjet pipes from our F.53 to be renovated and used in 724 to enable more ground runs in the near future. Before anyone asks, yes thay supplied us with some time expired pipes to replace ours so ours won’t look wrong when put on display next year.
So the future doesn’t seem so bleak afterall
ZF594
Sorry to all that don’t agree on the paint scheme. I do understand your point of view and agree to a point but like Lindy’s Lad said to fit in our collection it must have a northern connection. As Lightning’s from northern Q, Binbrook opperated in this area, that’s what has been chosen. Again sorry to dissapoint…..

Phil.
TT.18
If you could do this sniffing around, I’d be most greatfull as I want it looking A1 when finished. I’d be interested to see what you come up with!!!:D
25(F)Sqn Tornado F3
As 25(F)Sqn, the last opperational Tornado F3 unit based in Yorkshire will be coming out of service next year, it would be nice for the organisers of the Elvington Airshow to have an example brought in for static display….. What do people think of this idea???

Spadeadam SU22
I just hope the ex-German Air Force SU22 does not go the same way!!!
While we are on the subject of parts, can anyone help with this one off conversion that WJ639 was subjected to. As it would be hard to explain I have included some pictures! These are pods underslung from the aircrafts engine bay to illuminate the Tarrant Rushton Target Towing Pod….. Can anyone add any more information to this and what glass was used in this hole. I think it may have been something like a bedford truck headlamp etc because before it was smashed by vandals I remember it being convex (buldging from the pod).
Regards,
Phil
Can no one help with these light for the winch pods????
Phil.
Pin badges eeek
Ok, so I got the link wrong lol….

I pressume you’ve got the Ian Black Lightning books….?
There’s a few good ones in there of them. I pressume you are painting it up in the unusual dark grey – light grey scheme then?
Don’t forget 928 carried on flying at Warton for a few more years in the same scheme but just minus sqn markings….before being stripped as a spares ship for the LFC and now Thunder City fleet, and being on display at Warton.
Hi all,
Yes, she is to carry the marks of XS933, BE of 11(F)Sqn in the unusual dark sea grey upper and barley grey lower as this has not been replicated on any museum aircraft anywhere.
Sorry to the purists out there who would love to see her back in Saudi colours but without being allowed to apply a FULL compliment of Saudi markings, it would just look wrong!!! We are just sticking to the rules layed down to us by Saudi legislation. Before anyone says anything though, the Lightnings in this country that have been painted Saudi are not done so with ALL markings…. Take a look on http://www.demobbed.co.uk
Thanks to all that have helped in this query!
Regards,
Phil.
Morris Minor
