Sid James was in the Army (the anti tank Corps according to his unofficial Bio).
Kenneth Williams was in the Royal Engineers before he managed to land a job in the Combined Services Entertainment unit.

I can always hear aircraft flying about but never see anything because of my neighbours trees. Bah! There I am belting out into the garden after hearing the sound of a Merlin and all I do for he next 5 minutes is try to distinguish the aircraft with said Merlin fron the branches and leaves on the trees!

Darnit! I was up in Derby all weekend! I saw the Hawks and what I thought was a Hurricane (lousy single decker buses) on Thursday afternoon… I reckon my cat will have been in and out of the house with all that hardware careering about!

There was the Old Jail at Biggin too. The White Hart at Biggin I think was another.

The Old Jail was a favourite for the ground crews. The White Hart, in Brasted, was the pilots haunt. I believe the Jail still has memorabilia but the White Hart underwent restoration a while ago and now doesn’t have anything (that I know of) and when the new landlord was questioned to its whereabouts he struggled to even remember what World War II was…

I believe all the White Hart memorabilia is now at Hendon… but dont quote me. 😉

You know, I’m seriously going to have to think about buying a little run about car and get to a few more airshows. From all the great pictures I’ve been seeing I’m definately missing out!

I’m either going to have to move to East Anglia (come on you Tractor Boys!) or buy a P-51…
