RE: My Short Pilot Career Thus Far

Cracking plane the Minor. Used to be one based at Old Sarum in wiltshire (where I did my gliding) back in 1976. It was powered by a long in the tooth JAP twin that was earmarked for a museum once it had become time expired. It was painted all silver and sounded much like a Doodlebug when flying.

The day I soloed in the Glider I was talking to the owner of the Minor and he let me try it out for size. the hardest thing was actually the getting in and out withgought treading on something you shouldnt or putting your foot throught fuselage or grabbing a support that you shouldn’t !. Once sat in I was amazed at the almost friction free aileron circuit but surprised at the weight of the elevator. I was told that with the slipstream running over, it almost dissapeared.

I kept hoping he would let me take it for a spin around the field but (cos I could fly…I’d just soloed in a glider for goodness sake !!!) he didnt. However I thanked for his time and still remember that little plane floating ’round Wiltshire (used to hear it two minutes before you actually saw it !!!)

    Cheers

    RE: 3rd Ark royal found

    Scooter

Unfortunately I walked in the room just as the report was finishing (it’s on a British Forces Broadcasting Service program) but I think I heard something about a media oriented team. Not Dr R Ballard and his crew who found the Bismark, titanic…etc etc.

I would imagine that this will be repeated on the various news channels later on so will keep an eye for further info.

    Cheers

    Gary

PS: probably do a search on the web and find out later on today.

RE: Funny ( or not that funny) pics

Often wondered if that scene in Iron Eagle where the pilot of an F16 launches a missile while stationary to blow up a truck coming towards him could happen in real life …. Now I know.

Bladdy fast reflex’s from both the deck hand running out of the way and also the cameraman !

Wonder how the jet jockey explained that one away ?

I see on Airliners.net there is a piccy of a C17 that was being refuelled on the ground when it’s left wing broke at the shoulder joint !!!!.

    RE: Uninteresting!!!

I wouldnt say lost its edge…the thing that strikes me most about these four Forums is that the life of a thread depends on the first one or two replies.

You can totally kill a thread with one reply even though the guy that posted the original script thought he was on a winner !. I’ve put out a few that I thought would last sometime only to have them cut off in their prime by a few well chosen words in a reply….but hey, thats whats makes it interesting.

    dont give up just yet.

    Cheers

    RE: Studio recording!

Yeah, you’re probably right there…I used to have a mug that played ” you are my sunshine” everyti, time It was picked up…lasted all of three hours at work before I got the knife to it and pulled its chip and battery out from under the bottom of the mug.

any road, as I cant play a musical instrument (except for the Kazoo and even then badly !)I wouldnt be able to particip[ate in any mass recording.

However, keep us posted on any more studio sessions OK ?.

Are you gonna do a full cd one day ?

    Cheers

    RE: Studio recording!

    Outstanding !

nice rendition there….didn’t know you could play the piano and drums at the same time though !

Thats a nice pitch / tone chosen….almost haunting.

Need to work on an anthem / theme tune for the forum now ?…you know, one that launches when you open the forum pages. summat oldish like a bit of Glen Miller for the Flypast, ride of the Valkyries for the military side, Take me to the moon for the airliners and the theme tune to Benny Hill for the general forum (yes, I’m on the C*rlsb*rg again…but still think its a good idea.)

We have enough musicians on these pages so could probably knock up something suitable that could be recorded seperatly by our rockers on their pc’s and then stuck together to produce a song.

    Whadja fink ?

    Keep it up.

    Cheers

    Gary

PS: we also need summat to play when we launch CFS2, just to scare the whatsits out of our opponents…sort of a battle hymn.
