Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but after searching for footage of RR299 on youtube.com I discovered a clip showing its demise at Barton.
My apologies if it has already been highlighted.
RIP both crew 🙁
I won’t publicise the URL, I’ll leave it for you to search for should you wish to watch it.
Thanks for the comments chaps.
On another note, Mark, did you managed to get many decent shots of XX897 at Bournemouth last week? Being live side and working on her, I didn’t get much chance to take many photos.
I did take some, but for some reason all bar one got corrupted on the CF card 😡 Sorry Nigel.
Will do!
It’s probably one of those things that will never happen again 🙂
It’s back online now, and the problem still persists…
…at 1024×768 resolution in IE6/IE7.
Whack it down to 800×600 or up to 1280×1024 and it’s fine in both browsers.
Answers on a postcard
Lee,
I’m only getting a “service unavailable” message now.
Thanks for posting the fot Adrian!
She’ll look exactly like it when it’s re-finished, apart from a different cab number, ‘134’.
Hawker fury G-CBEL is still airworthy although when she last flew I’m not certain as she doesn’t appear to have been particularly active on the airshow circuit this year. Whether she is still owned by John Bradshaw is also up for discussion as Feb 2007’s Aeroplane quoted John Bradshaw as having sold G-CBALbased a kemble, I was never aware he had another Fury:confused:
CBEL is still airworthy and is flown every 4-5 weeks, weather permitting.
John Bradshaw no longer holds an active DA on the type, which is why it no longer displays at airshows (in the flying display).
She looks gorgeous, the shine off her props is amazing 😎
Looks like the rumours are true!
Permission to wear authentic 899NAS colours has been granted 🙂
Chris,
I wasn’t having a go at anyone, just a bit surprised!!!
G-ARHW – We now own this Dove and it will be returned to flight shortly.
Tom.
Can I enquire what the latest is with the Sea Devon Tom?
As for VN799/G-CDSX, it could be some time before she flys again. Practically everything that could expire, expired on the day the RAF delivered it to us so it needs a great deal of work to make her airworthy and we have other priorities at the moment.
Canberra WJ874/VN799 was only overhauled during the winter of 2004/05 by FR Aviation at Bournemouth!!!
Unfortunately, in the past I have had correspondence with people that thought TF956 was just abandoned straight away.
Take off, oh dear the wheel doesn’t work.
What should I do?
Hmm, I can’t possibly land it so I’ll just dump it in the sea…
They obviously didn’t know about the two hours spent trying to get the Fury down safely 😡
Must agree on the quality of the programme, one of the best if not the best ever produced!
The same applies to the Stringbag reborn video, detailing the restoration of W5856 (also available through the RNHF shop on its official site)
If a similar programme had been produced for VR930’s restoration, I’m sure that too would have been quality!
The only thing left recognisable from TF956 was its tail section and a few other bits and pieces. Nothing really substantial enough to merit a rebuild.
It hit the water extremely hard going at a fair old rate.
What’s happened to the Source fleet?
All are for sale, and most are in open store at Bournemouth.
One now ex-member is the aeroplane that Bruce has mentioned, G-DHZZ. It was sold to a new owner last year.
A Venom in an all-red colour scheme is on display at the Bournemouth Aviation Museum, I think it’s G-DHTT.
The Classic Flight acquired three aeroplanes for spares; a Vampire T.11 and two Venoms. These were static aeroplanes and I don’t believe were ever flown.
