I was lucky enough to visit Dunsfold when the RNHF Sea Hawk and Firefly were undergoing their restorations.
I am seriously considering making the trip up the A31 🙂
I think I have seen a photo of a Fury in that condition, taken somewhere in Australia.
It may even still be preserved now.
Congratulations on the first flight!
It really was quite unfortunate. This is the first time i’ve seen any photographs of TF956’s last flight. I should imagine a belly landing was also disregarded aswell?
A belly landing was impossible, because the lowered wheel wouldn’t retract!
Putting 956 in the sea was the best option, and followed the recommendation in the pilots notes.
TF956 was lost over 15 years ago now, hard to believe.
It seems like yesterday that it, and Fury T20 WG655 were pounding the Yeovilton circuit. Happy Days 🙂
We may get a Mustang, if Rob Davies and Maurice Hammond happen to be ‘in the area’ like last year! 😉
Sandown last year and Abingdon.
It’s an excellent Museum I have to agree.
Sadly, I’m told that their planned move to new premises has hit a major snag.
A real shame if true, they do need a bigger building to house all their exhibits!
Doesn’t the FAAM have a US marked F4 ? OK, so the F4 served with the FAA & not the F14, but ……
The FAAM did indeed have a USMC Phantom, as they didn’t have a Fleet Air Arm example at the time. They now of course do have another aircraft, painted up in Royal Navy colours, and on show on their Carrier.
I hope that Corgi do VR930 myself, or TF956 🙂
I have been spreading the word about this show for the past year.
One or two of my friends are intent on giving it a try for the first time in May.
Keep up the good work Neil, and the best of luck over the next couple of months.
Mark
I suppose there’s a small chance that the American Air Museum at Duxford could get one?
Not sure where they would put it though?
Sorry to hikack the thread, but what happened to the Valletta and Hastings?
Are they preserved?
Great photos Albert 🙂
Buy an ex-FRADU Hunter and Canberra of course!
Brings back lots of memories.
My dad took me to Eastleigh that day!
Didn’t a Spit do a fast flypast down the runway?
The Airport has changed immensely since those photos were taken, though the Trilander is still a familiar type in the circuit 🙂
When 899NAS was 50 in 1992, they painted their T.4Ns and a few FRS1 jets in anninversary colour schemes.
Anyone got shots of those?
Back then the aircraft would have had XWxxx registrations.
