    Not really.

    RAF service from 1951 to 2006 = 55 years.

    IAF service from 1957 to 2007 = 50 years.

    .

Thanks for that Les, I wasnt too far out, just about to start this chapter in Bee’s book LoL Bex

    Merlin Powered Car

Im pretty sure there was a guy in the UK that upset RR a wee bit when he chucked a Merlin into a car and then promptly put Rolls Royce badges on it and was “asked” to remove the badges before RR demanded riduclous amounts of money in compensation for copyright breach. ANyone else remember this as I was a wee sproglett at the time. Bex

Dave, thanks for digging this one out, at least the IAF have managed a bit longer than we did, specially as last Sunday was the Canberra’s 58th birthday. Im pretty sure that the IAF are the last Cranberry users, though I might be wrong…….. Les have I got it right? :diablo: Bex

If Cossy’s TSR is fairly complete, hmmm what Id give to get my grubby little hands on it. Sorry I like the idea of museum exhibits having a little bit of life in them and a TSR with life in her again………to quote a well known bald headed yellow cartoon idol of mine….. “Hmmmm donuts” LoL Bex

It has always struck me that the official genocide directed against TSR2, has been somewhat exagerated – perhaps for political reasons. If it had been as thorough as many would have us believe do you really believe that two, all be it unflown, prototypes (Duxford & Cosford) would still be with us?

Or that elements of the technology would have survived to be used in later projects?.

Anyone know exactly what state these 2 airframes are in? Bex

    [QUOTE=mjr;1114616
Nowt to do with design flaws. Twas the latter. mod pushing squares through round holes!

The aiframes were being used outside of their design envelope. Vickers had already voiced concern some years earlier. Hence no surprise when the first higher hour crate went, BANK…CLUNK on final approach.

Wasnt designed to be beating up hills at low alt with a full stomach!:([/QUOTE]

Typical MOD really…….. brains of rocking horse poo :diablo: Anyone got any ideas as to how many Valiants went bang before they realised that there just might actually be a little problem with the Old Girls? Shame really Valiants are lovely looking aircraft, atleast we’ve still got one complete airframe though all things considered. Bex

    Venerable Valiant

Very simple, the Valiant was not designed for low level flight and when suddenly redeployed to fly low level the main spas gave way due to fatigue, dot take a expert to work that one out :diablo: Bex

P.S: this is keeping it SIMPLE 😀

    Pondskater,
Thanks for that, yes that was the question :diablo: So basically then, the flight crew could also be classed as Test Pilots in theory. Ok these guys were qualified on the Vulcan and theres noone around now to test them now so theyre really rewriting the book in a way (basic way of Bex thinking here). Well fair game to them. Bex

Might be a good idear to close this tread.

True they dont but theres no need to close the thread as people are entitled to their opininions. Besides I still have a question unanswered :diablo:

    Dont give up

Nashio, firstly its a well known fact that when it comes to a certain little aeroplane that first flew 58 years ago tomorrow I have a rather large soft spot for them, so if you can help one then go for it. Its also a known fact that Ive already put both my feet in it big time in this thread with a joke that went badly wrong so I shall be a bit more careful this time.

If I was unable to look after something that I owned and someone offered to look after this object for me at no cost then I would take their offer of help. Now I do not know the circumstances that surround certain objects this thread refers to and these are my own views regarding something that I can only dream about. Im sorry to be so vague, but I really dont want to goof again. Bex
