Hi ya, just nipped in from the Historic Forum and found this little gem. I have read with interest your comments. My “problem” is I didnt know FSX was coming out, bought 9 and with the help of Ebay got all the Add ons & aircraft I wanted then up pops FSX.

FSX looks pretty amazing, and from the comments here u guys mostly like it so yes if it was worth my while then Id buy it too, but I also know my PC would propably through a mega techy strop at the thought of FSX.

Only thing I dont like is the constant M$ upgrades to new software on which most of the stuff u already have wont work on the new stuff. I also have a load of FS2000 add ons, but as that runs on my old lap top, my step son is getting that to play with while I have FS9, so eventually he will get my FS9 collection (when he stops putting big holes in runways LoL)

Oh slightly off topic, but John Y, if u think FSX is a little unstable and throws its toys then try M$ Train Sim, THAT is unstable but when it works is great fun. Bex

i know… you would of thought they would of tried to push it that bit harder on the opening run!

i know if i was in charge it had to be worth it..

its crazy tho… 357.2mph on a long route would soon as them miles behind you.. it puts us in the UK to shame with our Virgin 125mph train!! – however.. i thought the GNER got upto around that speed? if not a little faster?? ie King Cross to Leeds…

I worked on the railways for 15yrs, our infrastructure is so old if u sneeze it falls apart. The TGV routes have been specially designed & built along with their in cab signalling, we dont have it (apart from on the Channel Tunnel Hi Speed route). I have been in a cab at 125mph trying & i mean trying to learn a route not an easy task as u cant see much thats y the french have those systems in place.

Finally, the East Coast Main Line (GNER to non railway peeps) is cleared in places further north for 140MPH running, though the Class 91 locomotive was tested upto 162 MPH.

We invented railways but thanks to politics (which Im not going to discuss here not fair on the thread) lack of investment means we have the worst and one of the most dangerous rail networks in the world. However it is operated at GROUND level but the most professional people Ive worked with (apart from the odd idiot) Bex

Indeed you are entitled to your analysis but I beg to differ. Are you suggesting that this was a press conference, intended to offer the private sentiments of those individuals ? I’d suggest they are as much a part of the political game, this side of the (GPS negotiable) fence as they were on the Iranian side. Let’s not kid ourselves on here…

Now, that said… I don’t expect they were treated to anything like the kindnesses they were made to claim on Iranian television broadcasts last week. I don’t fall for that nonsense any sooner than any other viewer, not least the Iranian television viewers. I’m even less inclined to fall for such an obviously stage managed PR exercise such as today’s shenanigans, particularly when the ‘MoD’ missed or declined the opportunity to hold a Q&A at Heathrow Airport yesterday, instead choosing to create a media orientated fuss of whisking said persons away aboard military helicopters.

Why didn’t they just fly the Airbus straight to a ‘military base’ or are we supposed to believe that our captured individuals were only treated to economy class tickets on a scheduled B-Med flight from Tehran ?

Plenty of ‘showbusiness’ going on on both sides I’d suggest ?

Just a thought, if this team had made a right mess of things & had been lying then they would have landed and been hidden away but they werent and it needs to be noted that they have been allowed to talk freely without Senior Officers or Slimeys sticking their noses in.

Finally, the B-Med would have been logistically easier, and besides the RAF (Royal Aeroplane Flying) are a bit busy and also using the RAF to pick them up would have given them Iranians another chance to do something just as stupid.

It has also been a great PR stunt for both sides (I’ll leave it there with this one or I might get meself into trouble LoL) Bex

Exactly the same happened to me!!!, I supposedly leaned too far into the open Phantom cockpit and was shouted at from a hundred yards out….’keep your hands of the exhibit’.

Well the shock and embaressment of the dressing down sent me into an alternate state and I gently reminded the person that the ‘exhibit’ was in fact a Phantom and that both my hands where busy keeping my camera equipment from succumbing to the effects of gravity and a hard surface!, apparently my volume now attracted more wardens and I decided that rather than challenge their combined intelect of a dead badger, retreat was more fruitfull.

On the other hand when I visited MAM a couple of years ago, I was wandering around when a guy approached me and said ‘are you interested’, ‘yes’ I replied, he then proceeded to take me on a guided tour of the aircraft including full access to the Vulcan, F104, Phantom and Canberra cockpits, I went home a very happy bunny that day:D 😀 .

    John.

    John check ya PM’s. Bex

    Visiting & Viewing cockpits

To save hijacking LesB’s thread, I thought Id bring Sadsacks thread back to life. I have to agree with Bri’s comments about Hendon (LesB’s 922 thread), Ive never been there and was planning to go, but now, with the attitude hes described, NO WAY. If there is a shortage of volunteers or staff then I can understand a lack of cockpit entry, though Bournemouth has a few cockpits that they allow you unsupervised entry, and some obviously they require supervised entry.

If I wanted to stand and look at an aeroplane and think “Oh how pretty” or take a photo, I just have to stand outside an airfield or at the crowd line at an airshow.

Museums like Hendon are very famous and one would have thought they would have a good reputation, guess that theory has gone out the window.
