Well I wonder if Tornado will last as long the Canberras, I can see Tornado is some version hitting the big 30, but I doubt anything after that. It will also be interesting to see whether collectors or museums dare i say “scramble” after retired Tornados in the same way oher aircraft have been bought up. But i also reckon if any are preserved complete and working that the CAA will add it to their “No FLy” list. Bex
Interesting article I must say, also somewhat fishy……. Why would Immagration & Customs be interested in ex military aircraft? Another one is a nice tidy profit too, fancy buying a “scrap” airframe for $5000 then selling it to a museum for $50,000, not very museum friendly that is it?? This sounds to me like a bum covering excercise, someone hasnt “dotted the I & crossed the T” and theres been a panic, especially as the Iranians still fly F14’s. Oh well. Bex
Ive done a G-INFO for both reg numbers:
and the other is:

Like many forumites Im also a volunteer, but at GAM near Gatwick, and I can normally be found with a pair of legs sticking out of our Canberra, and if someone wanted to look around its cockpit that would be fine with me as long as it was safe to do so and they dont mind getting dirty or wet. Ok our PR7 is a dead duck, (Not if Ive got anything to with it, Y should our Frightning gang have all the fun LoL) but I would only stop entry to the aircraft if I was doing something that I considered may interfeer with or spoil something I had recently done.
Id also hope that the visitor would listen to anything I had to say regarding safety, as I know which parts will “bite” back, as some of the forumites know me and know all too well when Ive lost a fight with a Cranberry LoL and had a good chuckle at my expense.
One thing I do enjoy about restoring this airframe is Ive been in contact with former aircrews who actually flew the aircraft in service, another is learning more about the aircraft Im working on, Im no Cranberry expert but I want to know more, so if I make a mistake in any statements on a PR7 then feel free to correct me.
Finally, providing a visitor respects the chance to gain entry to aircraft then it will continue, but if the bad apples want to ruin it by being stupid (Im being polite here) then im pretty sure pretty sure Museums and owners will change attitudes and stop anyone getting inside.

I have to say it EE Canberra PR7 would be my choice 1. Theres no PR7 flying 2. I love Canberras 3. I love Canberras. For me it would be to show everyone thats it not just tiny little fighters that can show off in style. :diablo:

Simply gorgeous
As a confirmed Cranberry nut, I must say this “Old Girl” looks absolutely gorgeous. But lets face it, RR know how to make a sexy sounding engine, Merlin, Avon not alot of contest both have their appeals, especially as the sight & sound of a Merlin can reduce one to tears over the memory of a RR WW2 Test Pilot. Photos, well they’re just stunning thank you for sharing.

Paul, qoute from PAGE 225, “underside painted dark sea grey” just read it tonight
. . . virtually, as a flight sim subject.
As a tribute he has produced a re-paint of WF922 based on the popular B.2 sim model. in the colours it is shown in at MAM. Obviously it’s not a PR.3, but it checks the box for me until the impending PR.3 and 7 come along – not that I ‘sim’ a lot, hardly ever in fact, can’t seem to land the d*mn things.
.
Les u got me with ya subject, I thought Malc had gone and done it LoL Oh well never mind. I am curious however u mentioned the bit above about “The impending PR.3 & 7” could u enlighten us?? As for u unable to land, that makes 2 of us, Ive got a 747-200 I can only get on the deck in one piece after a fair bit of er “Fally over juice” as my step son calls it LoL

Excellent story from the days when the RAF was allowed to do daft things could you imagine them doing something like this now? Bex
Why doesnt the Government just stop wasting everyones time and just get rid of the Armed Forces like it truly wants too and all sir round a camp fire singing happy clappy space cadet songs……… Ok toys thrown sorry feel better now. Bex
thanks Rob, like the Widow Maker.
Ive just finished reading a book on Canberras, theres a mention of Airwork taking over the maintenance of Cranberries and there reliability levels going down the bog big time, I will have the book, authors, pages & qoutes in 24 hours as ive just got back from a holiday. Bex

Hi all, been away a few days so here we go: I agree in principle of us being made aware of the radiation in instruments etc and yes it needs to be dealt with sharpish. However what I dont like is as I believe its noted before as “the cotton wool state” causing chaos as usual. What needs to be done is this issue dealt with slowly, carefully and properly and not the usual HSE bull in a china shop attitude. I can assure you this is not an ill informed opinion of the HSE but from very bad experiences of dealing with them (But, before those who work for and have worked for those agencies please note the following) NOT all officers of the HSE are complete morons, just a case of the Minority causing all to be tarred with the same brush which can be said for all of society. (Oh and my dad was a MOD H&S officer too)
Also I have experience of Radiation too, I used to transport Radioactive waste and theres more chance of me glowing in the dark from that cr*p than there is from a cockpit, Id say 54 tons is slightly more iffy that a tiny drop of paint.
My final point is this, aslong as the HSE remember that our museums dont have millions of pounds rolling in and that we work on very small budgets and also work very hard to ensure that the visitors are well looked after and more importantly realise that we do our best to ensure EVERYONES safety then we will be fine in the long run, this is the only thing that worries me, is the HSE will come storming in both barrels and the aviation museums will end up with a car park full of visitors saying “Oh they look nice from 1/2 mile away”.
