I’ve never seen digital come close to the quality, and more importantly, ‘feel’ of these shots. They are a real eye opener

    Operation Black Buck

A heartwarming tale of a young boy who steals an Avro Spitfire bomber, flies it to the Falklands, and wipes out the terrorist cell of Argentinians who have captured his father, a plucky army corporal played by Clint Eastwood.

Also starring Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher, Bruce Willis as Sandy Woodward and Jack Nicholson as Sharky Ward.

Aye, it’s the way forward for sure! The book’s already there to be converted into a screenplay.
Extra footage could be gained by wheeling out the Elvington Victor for a few fast taxis (and of course the movie budget would cover the temporary paintjob). If filmed in the UK it will also bring much needed jobs to the country.

Funnily enough, there’s a program on History Channel right now, The Vulcan Bomber. “Witness the star plane being rebuilt from scratch”
One of the guys being interviewed mentioned the ‘RAF Station commander at Waddington’ suggesting that if it ever flew again it could be used in a film about Black Buck. I’m surprised no-one’s actually made a stab at this. Everyone’s a winner….the film would be a surefire hit because Jeremy Clarkson would undoubtedly endorse it, and TVOC would get a big bundle of cash and more publicity than they could imagine.
    GENIUS!!!!

If no-one tries any fundraising attempts, we can say for certain it’ll be grounded for ever. If people try, there is still a tiny chance it’ll fly again this season. Good luck to all those involved!

Thanks for the reply. What a shame, I used to love Elvington airshow, it was one of the highlights of my year.

Maybe it was a GR series cockpit being used as an F3 simulator?! All I know is, the guy selling it spent a few years working on Tonkas so I’m hoping he should know what he’s talking about!

Never has so much hatred been directed at one project (apart from maybe Millenuim Dome!). Seems to me there are plenty of people who’d love to see TVOC say “Ok, it’s a fair cop, you’re right, we’ll never raise enough money. Game over man, wheel it back into the hangar…or even better let’s scrap it” just so you can feel all nice and smug that you were right. Nothing TVOC do will ever be good enough for you. You can list every single thing they’ve done wrong..could’ve told ’em right from the start..etc etc.
Yup, they’ve made some mistakes, maybe they have squandered some of our money on overpaid managers, gold plated bathrooms in their offices, lit the engines with £50 notes…you name it. Yes it is a ruddy great money pit. So’s my flaming car! So what. You’re all aviation afficienados (sp), it’s an aircraft, a big beautiful one, either you help em out or you’ll never see a Vulcan fly again. No one will. Ever.

Yes I have made a pledge

    No, I haven’t had a smoke for 3 days

Yes I would really, really like one right now : – )

Were the Lancs with said windows built using a fuselage originally designed for use with the Manchester?

Superb pictures, especially liking the Blenheims, thanks for posting! Absolute longshot but don’t suppose you have a pic of Blenheim Mk1 L1449 or L1117?

Oh God I never knew they were lost like that. I saw them as a kid at an airshow (Church Fenton maybe?) and they really stuck in my mind for some reason, I have a colour postcard of them somewhere. Such a shame.

Elvington 2006 I think, was camping over the full weekend. Friday evening, arrivals had finished coming in and light was fading, practically no-one around, headed back to the stall we were helping to set up when I heard a Merlin engine. Ran back to edge of runway just in time to watch a solitary Spitfire dive out from the sunset and buzz the airfield before landing. The lighting was beautiful, but you had to be there I guess!

    Also:

Massed AAC helicopter approach at Middel Wallop, 89 or 90

    Concorde taking off at Farnborough

A real live Tornado F3 turning up at the Elvington Air Spectacular back in the days when it was basically just model aircraft.

Seeing XH558 take off at Waddington

My dad buying me a Novo (?) Hawker Hunter kit and a diecast Matchbox Lightning at Church Fenton airshow when I was about 4.
