Great news, always had a soft spot for the Ju 188 since I made a Matchbox model of one when I was a kid!
Excellent news! Last time I saw a DB engined 109 it was at RIAT mixed in with several other aircraft and the engine noise was lost amongst the Merlins! Can’t wait for this to appear on the circuit.
Superb!
It’s a shame that the passing of someone like this goes almost unnoticed whereas a very minor celebrity dies around the same time and gets 24 hour media coverage.
Can’t wait!
Certainly a more important find/recovery than a Spitfire in my humble opinion!
Fantastic news!
Cool photos! Crying out to be replicated in a 1:72 scale diorama!
Aye, much kudos to Lufthansa for this project, I look forward it seeing it at an airshow in the future.
That is a sexy line-up.
Fascinating post, never knew about any of this!
I’ll be there, just look for the 6′ 5″ bearded geek 🙂
Very, very sad news.
I’d never setup a standing order to donate to an aircraft before but decided I would for the Vulcan. When the Vulcan is finally grounded I will switch that donation to another, similar project that is trying to make airworthy another aircraft I want to see return to the skies. Therefore the Vulcan has stimulated me (ooer) into making montly donations to aviation projects. How is that a bad thing?
The Vulcan doesn’t steal funds from other projects, it’s just more popular and higher profile than other projects. It’s an aircraft that appeals to Aviation enthusiasts AND the unwashed masses so gets a load of money thrown at it. The more money it gets, the more advertising they can pay for, the more money it gets etc etc. Plus, if an airshow decides to pay for the Vulcan to attend rather than Sea Vixen, JP, Canberra, whatever..it’s because they think it will draw a bigger crowd i.e. more people want to see the Vulcan than want to see a Sea Vixen. The Vulcan has been around long enough now for airshow operators to have worked out if it is financially cost-effective enough to stump up the cash for it.
What happened to the Hercules engines donated by the French air force to go on the Halifax at Elvington?
