LOL! Where did I say that 59 hit the target? Why are you taking at face value that only 23 hit the target? Would you also believe a claim that only 15 hit the target if the Russia Ministry of Defence announced it? Think about it? Put yourself in the shoes of a spokesman in the Russian Ministry of Defence. At all costs the strike has to be played down and they throw out a figure that is essentially click bait. The result is that the story goes viral and conspiracy people fill in the blanks. Based on that 23 claim alone that blank has already been filled in by armchair warriors claiming that Russians shot down the rest.

The same goes for the Russian UAV footage that focuses on the intact aircraft next to the runway. Of course the Russians know that those are old retired types/decoys and that the US planners have left them alone. Old MiG-15 or 17 plus Su-7 and or Su-17s that have been there for years. By doing so they know that the footage will go viral and ignorance will take over with the armchair warriors claiming “missed aircraft”. Can you see how the propaganda works?

Lol. You have no problem to take what the US says at face value and you are asking me to disbelieve what the Russian MoD says.
Only fools and hardcore fanboys will blindly believe the guys who just recently manufactured the story of Syrian forces using chemical weapons on innocent civilians when in reality what the Syrian forces struck was a Jihadi ammo storage.

There is an urgent need to beef up the short-range close-in systems like the Pantsir-S1 and Tungushka-M1 from the Russian stocks as these are better to deal with cruise missile. It would be a waste to use the S-300/400 or Buk on cruise missiles, unless its beyond the range of these guys and in a critical situation.

A-50s need to be in the air 24×7 to reduce any such surprises and provided there is enough reaction time in situations like these, even fighters armed with R-60/R-73 or simply their cannons will be able to take out such cruise missiles.

India’s Nirbay cruise missile being in flight.

Don’t waste your energy and time on the faithfools. I mostly try replying twice or maybe thrice to such hardcore followers, after that I leave it coz there is absolutely no use wasting time and energy talking to bricks. It doesn’t bother me anymore after that.

Personally, no. Just the opinion of several chemical weapons experts who have been unanimous on one point- Sarin cannot be released like that, if you bomb it, you destroy it. It would not aerosol in the manner described in the attack by bombing a depot. That and the fact that storing Sarin in active form doesn’t really work, it degrades.

Yet the US military ‘deliberately avoided bombing sarin stockpile at Assad airbase’, because they feared that it might “be ignited and cause a hazard to civilians”.

How do you really know that only 23 out of 59 hit the target? You are relying on the claims of the Russian Ministry of Defence. Do you not think that is their job to discredit the attack and muddy the waters?

How do you really know that 59 of the 59 hit the target? You are relying on the claims of the US military. Do you not think that is their job to portray every attack as 100% on target?

MIC rules the states and its their reputation at stake.

    One thing to ponder:

why did Russia not shoot down any of the cruise missiles?

Because they choose not to do so, or because they were not able to?

Why bother shooting them down when the reliability of those systems are just too low. 😀

Just 23 of the 59 reached the intended targets.
i.e 61% of the cruise missiles failed to reach its targets.
If we take the initial figure of 70 which was reported, it would be more pathetic.

Probably even those 23 would not have reached the target if the target was much deeper.

Russian MoD has finally come up with the factual figures. As expected, of the 59 cruise missiles fired only 23 managed to reach its target. 36 of those cruise missiles were either shot down by the very limited Syrian AD, most probably by Pantsir-S1 (Turks have already tasted it once), or malfunctioned.

Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation
    1 hr
Statement of the Russian Defence Ministry spokesman on the missile strike carried out by the US Navy against the Shayrat Air Base in Syria

“On April 7, from 3.42 to 3.56 (MSK), two destroyers of the US Navy (USS Ross and USS Porter) made a massive strike with 59 cruise Tomahawk missiles from the area near Crete Island against the Syrian Shayrat Air Base (Homs province).

According to the objective monitoring data, 23 missiles reached the Syrian Air Base.

As a result, an equipment depot, a training building, a mess, six MiG-23 aircraft in repairing hangars as well as a radar station were destroyed.

The runway, taxiways and aircraft of the Syrian Air Force at parking places were not damaged.

According to the information received from the Air Base Command, two Syrian servicemen are missing, 4 were killed and 6 got burning wounds during firefighting.

Therefore, the combat effectiveness of the American massive missile strike on the Syrian Air Base is extremely low. 😀

These actions of the American party are considered as a serious violation of the Memorandum on prevention of incidents and providing security during operations in the air space of Syria signed in 2015.
The Russian Defence Ministry suspends the cooperation with the Pentagon within this Memorandum.

All the accusations against Damascus that it had violated the Chemical Weapons Convention of 2013 given by the USA as reasons for the strike are groundless.

The Russian Defence Ministry has repeatedly explained that the Syrian troops had not used chemical weapons. The Russian military department is looking forward to receiving explanations from the USA concerning the existence of irrefutable proof that the Syrian army had used chemical weapons in Khan Sheikhoun.

It is to be stressed that in the years 2013-2016 the Syrian government undertook all measures to eliminate chemical weapons, its delivery systems, production facilities. All chemical weapons stocks have been eliminated. The components for their production have been transported from the Syrian Arab Republic to the enterprises of the United States, Finland, Great Britain, and Germany where they have been destroyed.

The US administrations have changed but the methods for unleashing wars have remained the same since bombardments of Yugoslavia, Iraq, and Libya. Allegations, falsifications, grandstand playing with photos and test-tubes with pseudo results in international organizations became the reason for aggression initiation instead of an objective investigation.

It is to be stressed that a large-scale offensive of the ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra armed formations has been launched right after the massive missile strike against the Syrian Air Base.

The Russian Defence Ministry hopes that the activities of the insurgents had not been coordinated with the American party.

Today it is obvious that the American cruise missile strike had been planned long before this event.
It is necessary to conduct reconnaissance operations, to plan and prepare the missile flight paths, and put them on full combat alert.

It is clear for any specialist that the decision for the missile strike on Syria had been made well in advance of the events in Khan Sheikhoun, which have become just a formal reason for the attack, while the demonstration of military power has been dictated only by reasons of internal policy.

In the near future, the effectiveness of the Syrian Armed Forces air defence system will be improved in order to cover the most important objects of the Syrian infrastructure.

Some of the Russian response since that strike are –
    1) 11356 Admiral Grigorivich is on its way back to the Mediterranean just after returning from deployment 9 days back.
    2) Suspended the memo of understanding for deconflict which almost guaranteed safe flight of US aircrafts over Syrian skies.
    3) Finally, Russia has come to the senses and said, there is a need and its going to supply Syria with the long due AD systems.

^ This map is just to give an idea about the location of the airbase and not to forward the speculative path taken by the missiles or the location of the murican ships, as represented in the map.

To secure Damascus and airbases inside Syria, Russia needs to deploy its AD systems in Lebanon. No two ways about it. That Lebanese airspace is open and anyone can get through it.

To the stupid Russian fanboys if there is any left who still believe this was a strike coordinated with the Russians, then I have to disagree and say No. It wasn’t. The statement put out by the murican department was just a pyso to convey that Russia colluded with murica to backstab Syria. Instead, it was a surprise even to the Russians but with the available short duration of warning which was made available, the Russian and Syrian forces probably managed to do whatever they could do to face such a saturated attack.

Whats needed in Syria on a permanent basis are assets like A-50 & IL-38 and increase supply of modern AD systems like Pantsir-S1, Buk-M2/M3 and S-300 to the Syrian forces. In addition augment the coastal systems to strike any attacking waterborne assets.

No need to make big noises or threatening sound, shoot down murican drones operating inside Syria and without much publicity use AD to take out couple of fighters operating inside Syria as a warning.

Regardless of the Jihadi alliance strikes on Syrian assets, the show will go on. Hope the Syrian forces press ahead and take that Jirah airbase this week itself and also bomb the crap out of the murican allies in Hama and Idlib.

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C8vVq0QXYAQ50Gv.jpg:orig

Its also time to pull out the Syrian forces that has been kept as a buffer between SDF and Euphrates Shield and concentrate more on own frontlines. Let the SDF and ES sort it out themselves.

I don’t think USA is doing this thing right.
The Crude oil price took a good hike up:

    http://money.cnn.com/2017/04/06/investing/oil-prices-syria-us-military-action/index.html

Which gives Russia increased income. Well lets wait and see how this unfold, what collateral damage. If Russian forces Intercepted anything etc.

We have videos of Russian Pantsir-1S in Palmyra Airbase.
And a Russian S-300 Battery at Tartus port, which incidently is pretty close to Lebanon Airspace which the Tomahawk’s flew over..

I wish few cruise missiles are lobbed at Saudi military installation and oil well for their indiscriminate killing of Yemeni population, it will help skyrocket the oil prices and will be good for Russia.

You are way over exaggerating. This always, always always happens in this war. The Syrian and Russian side hits a snag and everyone exclaims that there is something wrong with the Rus/SAA plan. Everyone is always predicting that momentum will turn against them. Then they gather up and start overrunning the terrorists again.

The su 24 shoot down was supposed to be a momentum changer. Then the convoy attack. Then the ceasefire. Then the grand daddy of them all, Turkeys entry into the war, was supposed to be the game changer. But nope.

And about your other reply claiming that Russia isn’t defending good enough and needs drones. I think you are forgetting about all the rotary wing aircraft out there.

We are not taking about momentum, but having to loose precious manpower and life due to non availability of combat assets to defend and strike.

Regarding the Russian assets, I believe it is highly inadequate to service all fronts. Since you believe otherwise (?), can you let me know how you will be deploying/distributing the following assets. I’m not sure about the number of Russian helo gunships currently deployed. But lets take it as 24 and below is the approx number of fixed wing aircraft available.

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C7bdf9yXwAE9j_G.jpg

Now how would you distribute those limited aircraft + 24 gunships (approx speculative nos) for the currently very active fronts like Palmyra, Hama, Deir-Ez-Zor, North-East Aleppo? I’m leaving out other fronts inside Damascus and southern areas bordering Jordan and Israel. Also what would be their availability and frequency for combat support?

I’d call this strike on Syria as a good eyeopener which was badly needed. This will help Russia to frame a more realistic approach to the real threat it faces from its “partners”. The mask had to fall off as quickly as possible so that Russia could help itself to re-calibrate its decisions/actions.

There was just too much delusional people, even in Russia, who thought that Trump would be any different. I hope Tillerson is also shown the door as early as possible and any other individuals who the Russians consider as sane and not hostile. Coz its the habit of the Russians to act/react somewhat more softly and cautiously so as not to put these non-hostile persons in a difficult situation. This somewhat softer approach (during negotiations/consultation/etc) by the Russians towards individuals who are not hostile towards Russia is made use of by other entities to harm Russia and its interests.

Btw, this is what the muricans had to say on the strike.

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C8xxU_aXsAAw-W0.jpg

Regarding the US and Russian establishments, there is a very radical difference. Which is what differentiate the Russians and rest of the world from the empire.

Muricans and their followers often criticize Russia for having the Kremlin having too much power (or absolute power) in Russia. I agree to that completely coz its a healthy sign of a free democratic collective decision making process with the head of state reserving the full right to go along with it or overrule it.

On the other hand, the murican state does not have such a free decision making process and the power resides with the deep state/stake holders and the direction is framed by those entities. The POTUS is more like a rubber stamp whose job is to follow directions. Thats why we get to see a continuity in the murican foreign policy/actions.

In Russia, no such secondary/shadow power exist and its only the Kremlin and the head of state that have the final say and it will remain so. That is why we see/saw so much variation in the Russian (& Soviet) foreign (& domestic) policies. During the 90s we saw a drunkard dumbhead having his decisions prevail and earlier we saw another idiot ruling the state. Few years back we saw another moron in the Kremlin going against all the sane voices in Russia to pave way for start of this second round of human sufferings by indirectly approving a UN resolution on Libya.

22350M frigates are planned to be about 1,100 tons heavier than the current ships, though it also quotes the 22350 displacement as 5,300 tons; most sources to date indicated it was about 4,500 tons.
If so this will be in size true replacements for the current destroyers, and confirms Leader will be a small cruiser sized ship, whenever it appears.

I wish those new modification which is said to result in higher displacement include a new section fore of the hanger for additional VL missiles or just a xerox of the front VLS arrangement.

Hmm, interesting. Not sure if they’re just validating the usability of the new variant in sea conditions or they’re also testing the viability of using these modules on ships (I’d presume that such modules would be convenient for ad-hoc installation on e.g. non-combat vessels?).

Its the Russian way of doing things with use of common sense!
What you see bolted on to the helipad is a complete combat unit. As I understand, their approach was very simple, rather than taking a tedious route which could have involved additional financial resources and modification to a new frigate to be used as a test bed, they likely installed the TOR combat unit already used for testing to test/validate its performance.

Yes, there is a chance to see installation of such combat modules on non-combat vessels like tankers or other support ships which already is not wired for AD systems. But likely with additional containers with missiles to go with the combat module as 8 missile per module on a ship is a very low number.

There is no need to take Idlib there would be lot of blood bath.

Russians haven’t yet thought about putting the Syrians in taking back Idlib. They were probably thinking the moderate jihadi’s and their masters will play as per Russian plan. The current crisis in Idlib and countryside is due to the Jihadi’s opening up new fronts to pressure the Syrian/Russian forces. The Jihadi’s and their masters know perfectly well that Russia does not have enough assets in Syria to service all the active fronts. This is exactly what they are taking advantage of. Rather than making Russia concentrate their assets onto one place/frontline, pressure/force them to disperse their limited assets and in the process make them utterly ineffective!

All Russian MOD needs to say that they know there are Chemical Weapons materials/factories in Idlib and it reserves the right to hit those based on intelligence report and it need to share those either before hitting the target or just post strike to UN/US and all stake holders.

It is task better done by RuAF then by SyAF.

The problem though is it is not difficult to make such weapon if the ingredient is available , They the rebels can stage a CW attack every second day

Sharing such critical the info with moderate terrorists supporters? By assigning the safety of your locker to a thief would be foolish and the results likely wont be what one desired.

As Russia MOD knew these site where Syrian Airforce Attacked had chemical weapons or likely to have.

Why did RuAF didnt strike these site on their own and let Syrian AF do that considering Syrian AF dont have good reputation when it comes to earlier use of CW.

Next time RuAF should directly bomb these suspected site and either inform in advance or inform the media/UN immediately post these strikes.

As I understand, neither the Syrians nor the Russians specifically knew the target was also a storage site for chemical/weapons. But once they got it they knew they got (probably one of) the Jihadi’s chemical stockpile and its a big blow for the NATO alliance as their Jihadi colleagues probably suffered the biggest loss of their chemical stockpile.
The current desperate and pathetic events and barking from the “developed” side is likely due to this. If the barking is lound and vigorous, it is only a good sign that the Jihadis lost a major stockpile of chemicals/weapons. Only the faithfools of the western propaganda will believe that the tears are for the innocent victims.

The response/counter from English medium Russian outlets to the propaganda spun by the msm has been severely inadequate. Unfortunately, there is only one RT and as far as I’m concerned, RT is a useless English media outlet with a Russian name without proper teeth and claws to take on the massive propaganda coming from the US/British/Al-Jihadist/France24/DW etc etc. The better option is to have a Russia24 English version with proper news and reports translated into English. Thats how NHK worked back in the early 2000s, Japanese news with English subtitles.

Don’t let politicians and main-stream Western media fool you. This “chemical attack” is an ideal, pure and blatant invitation for US/NATO invasion. And given this fact, Assad is the last man on Earth who may benefit from it. In this particular case, i tend to believe to the version of our MoD. TLDR: Syrian AF accidently hit the storage full of chemical agents.

Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation

Review of the Ministry of defense of Russia for the destruction of the air forces of Syria ammunition depot with chemical weapons of terrorists in the village of Khan Sheyhun

According to the Russian means of objective control of the airspace yesterday, in the period from 11.30 to 12.30 local time Syrian aircraft bombed the Eastern edge of the settlement of Khan Sheyhun large warehouse of ammunition of terrorists and the accumulation of military equipment. On the territory of this warehouse were workshops for the manufacture of bombs, stuffed with poisonous substances.

With the largest Arsenal of ammunition with chemical weapons delivered by fighters into Iraq. Their use by terrorists has been repeatedly proved both by international organizations and official authorities of this country.

This ammunition with poisonous substances were also used by militants in Aleppo, Syria, when their use was recorded at the end of last year, the Russian military experts.

Symptoms of poisoning victims in Khan Sheyhun on the video in social networks, exactly the same as they were last fall in casualties in Aleppo.

Then all the facts of use of chemical weapons in Syria, along with soil samples were logged and transferred to the organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons.

However, the experts of this international organization, which received all the materials and samples that prove the use by terrorists of toxic substances in Syria, still studying them.

We affirm that the above information is completely objective and reliable.”

No word on the latest chemical attack?

    Who is RT blaming?

Couple of very very basic info for faithfool followers of the mainstream propaganda, stupid fanboys and dumbos alike!

    1) Since the start of the Syrian crisis the Syrian army’s weapons stockpile was captured by the moderate terrorists who overran the bases/depots in a meticulously planned manner. Those armaments ranged from light arms to heavy armor and chemical/weapons.

    2) Military overthrow of the Libyan Govt back in 2011 also saw chemical/weapons reaching the hands of the moderate terrorists as it was shipped out of Libya to aid the moderate revolution in Syria.

    3) Syrian chemical weapons stock was completely destroyed/neutralized as per Russia-Syria/US agreement back in 2013. This is a confirmed event!

    4) The chemical/weapons which were captured by the moderate terrorists from Syrian stocks were not touched or destroyed by any international agency and has been and still continue to be outside the control of the Syrian Govt/military. The responsibility/liability of these chemical agents lies on the French/Turkish/British/Israel/US among others who control and support the moderate terrorists against the Syrian military.

As for what RT reported quoting Russian MoD here it is….for a change try using you head instead.

Rebel warehouse with chem weapons hit by Syrian airstrike in Idlib – Russian MOD
    https://www.rt.com/news/383522-syria-idlib-warehouse-strike-chemical/

The Syrian Air Force has destroyed a warehouse in Idlib province, where ammunition dump containing chemical weapons was being produced by militants before being delivered to Iraq, the Russian Defense Ministry spokesman has said.

The strike, which was launched midday Tuesday, targeted a major rebel ammunition depot east of the town of Khan Sheikhoun, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Major-General Igor Konashenkov said in a statement.

The warehouse was used to both produce and store shells containing toxic gas, Konashenkov said. The shells were delivered to Iraq and repeatedly used there, he added, pointing out that both Iraq and international organizations have confirmed the use of such weapons by militants.

The same chemical munitions were used by militants in Aleppo, where Russian military experts took samples in late 2016, Konashenkov said.

The Defense Ministry has confirmed this information as “fully objective and verified,” Konashenkov added.

According to the statement, Khan Sheikhoun civilians, who recently suffered a chemical attack, displayed identical symptoms to those of Aleppo chemical attack victims.

At least 58 people, including 11 children, reportedly died and scores were injured after a hospital in Khan Sheikhoun was targeted in a suspected gas attack on Tuesday morning, Reuters reported, citing medics and rebel activists. Soon after a missile allegedly hit the facility, people started showing symptoms of chemical poisoning, such as choking and fainting. The victims were reportedly also seen with foam coming out of their mouths. While the major Syrian opposition group, the Syrian National Coalition, and other pro-rebel groups put the blame on the attack onto President Bashar Assad’s government, the Syrian military dismissed all allegations as propaganda by the rebels.

We deny completely the use of any chemical or toxic material in Khan Sheikhoun town today and the army has not used nor will use in any place or time, neither in past or in future,” the Syrian army said in a statement.

The Russian military stated it did not carry out any airstrike in the area either.

However, EU foreign affairs chief Federica Mogherini, commenting on the incident, was quick to point to the Syrian government as a culprit, saying that it bears responsibility for the “awful” attack.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson echoed Mogherini, accusing the Syrian government of perpetrating the attack calling it “brutal, unabashed barbarism.” He argued, that besides the Syrian authorities, Iran and Russia should also bear “moral responsibility” for it.

What, did he? Oh I missed that.

But to be honest I’m long past caring whose bombs are dropping on which civilians in either Syria or Iraq – not, hopefully, out of any personal feeling of heartlessness, hopefully, rather out of a feeling of hopelessness.

Can we have the same emotions and tears for the chemical warfare used in Vietnam from you. Its never too late to shed some tears. Go ahead.

Wait, the US strike hit the IS SBVIED which was attacking Iraqi forces and unfortunately the powerful blast brought down neighboring buildings. If you’re going to rate this the same as Syrian regime’s intentional terror bombings of civilian areas in rebel held territory, what’s the point in discussing this any further?

US regime struck unintentionally? How about the strikes carried out by Rafale’s of the French regime last year which killed nearly/over 200 in Syria? You are really exceptional mr.expert.

On 29th March it was reported that the Russian Pantsir-S1 shot down grad rockets which were fired towards the Russian airbase by Nato colleagues.

    https://southfront.org/russian-pantsir-s1-air-defense-system-intercepted-grad-rockets-over-jableh-city/

RUSSIAN PANTSIR-S1 AIR-DEFENSE SYSTEM INTERCEPTED GRAD ROCKETS OVER JABLEH CITY
    Donate

A Pantsir-S1 short range air-defense system deployed in the Russian Khmeimim Air Base has successfully intercepted 3 Grad rockets over the city of Jableh, according to local sources.

Two eyewitnesses in the Jableh countryside have reported seeing three waves of shells fired from Pantsir-S1 batteries from the Khmeimim Air Base area. The shells hit their targets causing three huge explosions in the sky heard clearly even in the city of Lattakia.

It’s believed that this rocket attack was carried by the US-Backed Jaish al-Izza militant group. The group is now supporting the anti-government advance led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) in the northern countryside of Hama. Jaish al-Izza owns and actively uses Grad rockets as many videos on the group’s official Youtube channel show.

UPD (22:04 CET): Pro-HTS sources confirmed that “opposition forces” had launched Grad rockets and claimed that they had targeted the Khmeimim Air Base.

It’s important to note that this was the second time when Khmeimim Air Base and Jableh city were targeted by Grade rockets launched from the Idlib western countryside since the beginning of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham-led militant operation in northen Hama on March 21.

The first incident took place during the first day of the militant advance. Then, a Russian Pantsir-S1 system reportedly intercepted one Grad rocket.

These incidents were another confirmation of the effectiveness of Pantsir-S1 short-range air defense system deployed in Syria.

It will be hard for the Russian fanboys to accept that there is need for Russia to change their tactics or improve their combat support. Ok, Russia as of now does not have any armed drones…so leave it. But they do have lots of gunships and that need to be put to use in good numbers to support defending newly liberated/captured areas and assault units. I don’t see any other option than increasing the combat support units in the form of more gunships to improve the situation.

Mardees in Hama province was captured few days back but the Jihadi counteroffensive started soon enough and it looks like there was no proper defensive positions setup. From the below video the Jihadis overran the only defensive/lookout position with that evasive T-90A.
The Jihadi offensive was smiliar, their current crown jewel T-90A charging and blasting any obstacles to pave way for the incoming VBIEDs or APCs to unload their cargo.

See those APCs, technicals and the T-90A moving around unchallenged. A gunship or two deputed to defend the area could have very well taken out all those vehicles before unloading their Jihadi cargo.

From the video and the way the T-90A moved, it looks like the Jihadis made extensive use of their good drones to collect proper intelligence on the ground beforehand and knew exactly where to strike. It was a damn unexpected shot (for a viewer) from that T-90 immediately after crossing that railway track. The Jihadi commander/gunner knew where exactly the defensive nest was. With two strikes in a row and charging staright ahead, there was no other option for the handful of defenders than to flee on foot.
I cant believe that they did not even have any ATGM to stike the T-90, considering we saw no missile strike on the tank.

Now Jihadis have reportedly launched a full scale offensive on Latakia in addition to already active hotspots of Hama, Palmyra, Deir-Ez-Zor…..and if Russians think that terrorists and their masters will fight as per Russian convenience of only one active front, considering their very limited combat assets, they are highly mistaken and stupid. JMHO
