I think S-500 elements will be used on the new destroyers
If its indeed S-500 systems going in, we can be sure that the ‘destroyer’ is going to be either in the pr.1144 or pr.1164 class. What do you think? Which class would you prefer?
btw, hope it gets shifted some other yard.
Also, something is not going right with me w.r.t to the rescue capsule/submarine that was earlier posted. Can you please help me with the project number and name.
Well let’s be fair BoGo, how much of it is Severnaya’s fault?
They don’t control the funding that the MOD sends them, which until recently was very irregular. Only problem I see is one of slip space, with 22350 monopoly and (presumably) further 20385 orders @ Severnaya.
Funding part I wont fault the yards, that completely has to go to the idiots in the Govt. But take a look at the slow pace of the project….even if we accept that delay is due to the complication as both of them are new (pr.20380 & pr.22350), but we cannot ignore the bstrdly act of monopolizing the right to build these two ships @Severnaya verf. Of all the major funding for the surface combatants that was allotted all these years, these two projects and the yard have swallowed the funds almost completely. None what so ever (AFAIK) was used to upgrade the pr.1155 & pr.956. I still believe these two class after upgrades will help keep the presence of Russian flag in international waters.
But in the case of new destroyer project there is more to it.
# Severnaya has already become the monopoly to built pr.20380 & pr.22350 ships and have even messed up with the pace. So lets say that their hands are full.
# Baltisky yard is going to built the two Mistrals…and that is something to watch out for. So they are also with their hands full.
# The distant Yantar is not possible as they already is on work for six pr.11356 and two pr.11711 and other small projects.
# So it comes back to the ‘neighboring’ Admirality yard, whose large Kotlin island facility we saw (in model). I don’t know how much that plan has progressed. But Admiralty yard is available and I personally think, the new project should go to them.
It was considering these facts of earlier (& continuing) mess and the availability of Admirality yard that I plainly said NO to Severnaya Verf. The private owners/management of the yard will do all it can to keep the new destroyer project, but it would be good for the future of the Russian Navy to source it to Admirality…
Btw, how much time does the yards anyway need to ‘pull out’ the old units and install the ships with Shtil-I VL & 9M96E/E2??…..not much if the plan, order and the finance is provide. But the guys are not doing it and that is criminal.
Russia Reflags Syria Arms Ship
MOSCOW, June 25 (RIA Novosti)
A Russian ship purportedly carrying helicopter gunships to Syria, which was forced to return to port, will now operate under a Russian flag, the ship’s owner, Femco, said on Monday.
Femco said that was necessary “in order to protect its interests, the security of the ship and its crew, all of whom are Russian citizens.”
Russian Navy Holds on to Its Syria Base
ST. PETERSBURG, June 25 (RIA Novosti)
Russia has no plans to abandon its naval base in Tartus, Syria, Navy chief Vice Adm. Viktor Chirkov said on Monday.
“We need that base,” he said. “It will continue to operate as it has until now.”
The game of showing middle finger and rubbing continues and it was at its high during Georgia war… still none of the guys in the Govt felt the urgent need to bring back whatever is available (pr.1155 & pr.956) to combat condition. The only consolation part was order for three pr.11356 and then another additional pr.11356. A good decision, that came late. Russia needed combat ships now, but unfortunately its not available in numbers and whats available is short (i feel so)of AD assets.
And how many combat ships can Black Sea fleet deploy to protect the naval base, just in case the need arise?…..i don’t see many and I strongly feel the situation is due to lack of vision, planning and wrongly prioritized project funding. Even if they had given the single pr.1134B operational a Shtil-I VL upgrade, it would have presented a good AD unit. There is plenty of space at the fore and aft to instal no less than 128 Shtil-I/9m96 medium-long-range missiles replacing the old launchers.

Chinese Submersible Dives Below Record 7,000 Meters
07:43 24/06/2012
BEIGING, June 24 (RIA Novosti)A manned Chinese submersible set a new record for the country’s deepest ever sea dive at over 7,000 meters (some 23,000 feet) on Sunday morning, Xinhua reported.
The Jiaolong submersible, named after a mythical sea dragon, dived 7,015 meters into the Mariana Trench in the western Pacific Ocean at around 11 a.m. local time.
The dive, the fourth since the submersible arrived in the area earlier this month, started at 7 a.m. on Sunday in heavy rain, the report said.
In July last year, the Jiaolong broke through the 5,188-meter mark in an ocean dive, and have since succeeded in reaching the depth of 6,671, 6,965 and 6,963 meters in its previous three dives earlier this month.
The four dives have proven that the submersible’s performance is “stable” and that the the crew’s skills are improving, mission chief commander Liu Feng was quoted as saying.
China has previously said its submersible program is aimed at scientific research and exploration of mineral resources on the deep seabed.
Aren’t they based on the Mir submersible?
And how much feasible is this one from Virgin?

India Begins $2.2-billion QR-SAM Procurement Effort
It would be nice to see Maitri being pushed to at least a tech demonstrator status. If it achieves the performance parameters, sooner or later it should receive a few orders, being a semi domestic product.
^^ why should Maitri be stopped at being a TD? …if it is being seriously pursued, pursue it to the conclusion as the QR missiles for land/naval use. Developing it just for technology demonstration is waste of time and money.
Its also time for DRDO to make good money out of their successful products, radars & missiles, and make it a commercial success as well. High time for the establishment to think about generating profits from their successful projects and help create a funding source for their future R&D. Selling to ‘internal’ customer is not going to generate profits as it is just Indian tax-payers money getting circulated. But for exports, it need a strong govt stand. They have got Akash ready and if the GoI work it properly, they can work out deals worth billion of dollars. Iran is a good candidate that needs good AD systems and India can break into the highly competitive world market with Akash system. Maybe sanction can hinder a sale, but every possibility has to be checked. Akash may not have the capability to match the Buk-M1 or new Buk-M2, but its is way better than what Iran currently has. I hope the lame excuse of ‘fulfilling’ Indian orders are kept aside and GoI seriously think of marketing the missile. A better opportunity wont come to sell the missile and take a pie of the international market….. It is high time we stopped thinking tooo much about Isreali’s, and start thinking about what we can sell and make money from Iran. Even a barter system of Oil & Gas for missiles would be good. Akash sure does needs improvements and there is lot of scope for improvement but this can be done in future when funds from the sales arrive.
We are already feeding the Israeli’s with Indian money and have been wasting India tax-payers money on missiles that Israel did not have any experience with. Were as the Russian 9m96e/e2 with a range of 120Km is already ready. Call it a scam, the better. Due to that Barak-8, all the new P17, Talwars are still carrying the non VL Shtil-I and Vikky is without any AD weapons.

Taikonauts Liu Yang, Jing Haipeng & Liu Wang before the launch…

^^^ It would have been much better and self-explanatory if they had made the model to scale.
Russia completes India’s submarine modernisation programme
The INS Sindhurakshak submarine came off the slips at the Zvezdochka shipyard in Severodvinsk on Saturday, marking the completion of a mid-life refit programme for the Indian Navy’s Kilo-class diesel-electric submarines in Russia.
During a two-year in-depth modernisation the torpedo-firing INS Sindhurakshak, built in 1997, has been equipped with the tube-launched Club-S cruise missiles effective against surface vessels and submarines at a range of about 200 km. It has also been provided with some Indian-made systems, including a hydro-acoustic “USHUS” complex, a CCS-MK radio-communication system and Porpoise Electronic Support Measures. After going through sea trials and firing tests the submarine will be handed over to the Indian Navy later this year.
The INS Sindhurakshak is the seventh and the last of the 10 Kilo-class submarines that India bought from Russia between 1986 and 2000 to have undergone mid-term repairs and modernisation in Russia. Of the remaining three submarines one was repaired in India and the two others are currently under repair in India.
Even as Russia prepares to deliver the last retrofitted submarine to India, Russia’s top shipbuilding official has come up with the idea of a second mid-life repair of the Indian Navy’s Kilo-class submarines.
“A second repair will add another 5 to 7 or even 10 years to the submarines’ scheduled 20-year service life,” said Andrei Dyachkov, Director General of Sevmash shipyard, who is expected to take over as the head of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, which controls 70 per cent of Russia’s s shipbuilding assets, next month. “This will help the Indian Navy maintain its submarine strength in view of delays in the induction of French-built Scorpene subs and in floating a tender for six more diesel-electric submarines,” he said.
The Indian Navy issued Request For Information (RFIs) under the P-75 (I) project way back in 2008. However, it is yet to open a global tender for the submarines. Russia is expected to take part in the tender with its new Amur-1650 submarines, along with France’s Scorpio, Germany’s Type-214 and Spain’s S-80 submarines.
Mr. Dyachkov, who also heads the Rubin Naval Design Bureau, which designed the Amur-1650, thinks the Russian submarine stands a good chance of winning the Indian tender.
“We hope for success and are confident of fulfilling all terms of the tender in the required timeframe,” he told The Hindu.
The Amur-1650 makes far less noise than the Kilo-class submarines, which the NATO nicknamed “Black Holes” for their stealth qualities.
The shipbuilder denied media reports that said Russia was trying to have the demand for the submarines to have onboard Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system removed from the tender requirements.
“We have designed and built an advanced and safe AIP that generates hydrogen onboard and enables the submarine to stay underwater for much longer time,” Mr. Dyachkov said.

Russia to Build Missile Defense Destroyers
United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) is about to lay down the first destroyer with missile defense elements in 2016, said the head of USC Roman Trotsenko on June 22.
“The question is a 6-ship batch of new destroyers with elements of missile and space defenses”, Trotsenko said at the press conference during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, reports RIA Novosti.
Trotsenko did not specify what exactly missile defense element he meant. According to him, designing works on the new destroyers have started, “the first ship will be laid down in 2016”.
The project is developed by Severnoye Design Bureau, Trotsenko added. “The ship will be constructed in St. Petersburg. Most likely, the order would be halved between Severnaya Verf and Baltiysky Zavod shipyards”, noted the corporation’s director.
“In fact, that would be mobile stations of Russia’s space defense in the World Ocean”, Trotsenko described the new destroyers.
Not again….. Severnaya Verf have already messed up two projects and now the timber merchant want to give them additional work. That bloody arseole must be making a good fortune with these orders. Kick the bloody Bstard out and save the Russian military..
2016 itelf is too late and on top of that two yards that are/were in private hands whose only priority is to make maximum profit.
Admiralty is already in the process of their new large facility at Kotlin Island, and Sevmash is likely to be the yard for any new carrier for RuN, so I think its best to carry out this project with Admirality.
Finally!:diablo:
http://rusnavy.com/news/navy/index.php?ELEMENT_ID=15406
I expect these will probably use the navalized S-400. Seeing funding and development patterns for current projects the actual dates will probably be delayed, but once this program is underway they can finally dispense with the ridiculously expensive notion of retrofitting the Kirovs.
I hope this is the 10,000t ship earlier speculated and in the size of current Pr.1164, but with N-power. Even the current Pr.1164 can be modified to accomodate upto 96 x S300/400 variants replacing the rotary launchers currently on duty.
Oh look! Yasen is still afloat! All that “shoddy” hull construction and “inconveniently” labeled wiring didn’t seem to sink anyone! 😀
No no…she is more than half already sunk…. 😀

Yekaterinburg arriving @ Zvezdochka for repairs after the fire.
sorry to ask the silly thing… but wasn’t she met with the accident when she was docked for repairs? Anything I missed?
INS Sindhurakshak is now under going her sea trials and I wonder if she will be joining INS Vikramaditya on their home voyage. It would be a good sight to see the two together…

Its 245MB, if anyone have the patience to do a subtitle for the program it would be good.
