(Very beautiful photo, but incomplete as the pod is out of frame. The picture is also not getting hotlinked as the adress have a $hit in it)
Nice pics BoGo– You can see a certain classified nuclear sub next to the 1164 cruiser in one of the big photos. 😉
Thanks dear. You got good pair of eyes….this time i simply failed to notice it as my eyes were glued to the Vik.
Btw, little more spec of that sub would be welcome….I’m surprised that the “classified” submarine is out in open. Frankly I lost track of it even though I’ve seen few pictures of when it was launched…one is attached below. Isn’t she the one with very deep diving capability as well?
Oh btw, the last two pictures of INS Vikramaditya is dated on 8th April 2012, posted by Igor.
Project-21300 details
Admiralteyskie Verfi Builds Rescue Ship for Russian Navy
16.11.2011
Project 21300 lead rescue ship Igor Belousov is being built by Admiralteyskie Verfi shipyard.According to the yard’s chief engineer Andrei Veselov, the ship will be launched in 2012 and join Russian Navy in 2014. These deadlines are stipulated in the contract recently signed in Severodvinsk between JSC Admiralteyskie Verfi and defense ministry, reports ITAR-TASS.
As for Veselov, the document lists works and equipment needed for the Project 21300 lead ship. The project was developed by Almaz Design Bureau (St. Petersburg).
Experts evaluate cost of the ocean-going rescue ship as $100 mln. The vessel is named after Igor Belousov held the post of Soviet shipbuilding minister in 1984-1988.
Project 21300 rescue ship Igor Belousov is designed for crew rescue of damaged submarines on surface or seabed, supply of surface ships and submarines with high-pressure air, electric power, and life saving equipment. In addition, the ship may search and examine damaged objects in assigned area independently and as a part of international rescue force.
Rescue ship Igor Belousov will be equipped with:
– manned deep-sea and unmanned remotely-controlled submersibles with operating depths down to 700 meters;
– Sea Tiger, Venom or Scorpio telecontrolled submersible;
– normobaric deep-sea diving armors, and diving system designed by Lazurit Design Bureau for underwater operations at depths down to 500 meters;
– decompression system for 60 rescued submariners;
– diving station for depths down to 60 meters.Deep-sea submersibles will be capable to dock with any kind of submarines. Additionally, Project 21300 rescue ship will be capable to accomplish non-rescue missions like shelf explorations and conduct other underwater works.
For Russia, construction of such ships is of fundamental importance because vessels of this kind have not been laid down for 25 years, since the breakup of the Soviet Union.

Russian Navy to Receive New Rescue Ship in 2014
03:07 07/04/2012
MOSCOW, April 7 (RIA Novosti)The Russian Navy confirmed on Saturday it would commission a new search-and-rescue ship equipped with DIVEX deep-sea diving system in 2014.
Construction of the Igor Belousov rescue ship started in 2005 at the Admiralty Shipyards in St. Petersburg but faced a series of setbacks mainly due to the failure of Russia’s Lazurit Design Bureau to meet contractual obligations on the development of deep-sea diving system GVK-450.
The Russian Defense Ministry decided in 2011 to equip the ship with a deep-sea diving system produced by Scottish firm DIVEX, which will be delivered, installed, and tested by experts from Russian company Tetis Pro.
Igor Belousov will be the first rescue ship built in post-Soviet Russia. The vessel is vital for the Russian Navy as it still lacks reliable means to rescue submarines in distress.
After the Kursk nuclear submarine tragedy in 2000, when Russia had to rely on the assistance of Norwegian divers to reach the vessel buried on the ocean floor at the depth of 108 meters, the Russian Navy has acquired a number of foreign-made deep sea rescue equipment.
At present, all Russian fleets have British-built Panther Plus and Tiger submersibles in service.

Divex’s Deep-Sea Diving System for Russian Rescue Ship Igor Belousov
Posted on Feb 29th, 2012Deep-sea diving system produced by Divex (Scotland) for Russian rescue ship Igor Belousov will be delivered, mounted, and tested by specialists of Russian company Tetis Pro which is going to provide 5-year long aftersales service and train operators. The contract with Tetis Pro will be signed in the nearest time, a source in defense ministry told Central Navy Portal.
Project 21300 rescue ship Igor Belousov was laid down in 2005 at Admiralteyskie Verfi shipyard. As is planned, the ship would be launched in Oct 2012, and commissioned into Russian Navy – in 2014.
Construction of the rescue ship so vital for the Navy was going on with considerable delays. In many ways, the reason was unsatisfactory work of Lazurit Design Bureau which was supposed to develop deep-sea diving system GVK-450, said the source.
Improper organization of design works and ineffective management of the bureau’s directors led to considerable schedule slippage which affected the ship’s construction rate.
JSC Lazurit Design Bureau presented feasibility study of development works with the system delivery date postponed to 2013 (so that the ship would be commissioned at least in 2015) and the necessity for about RUR 1.5 bln additional financing for manufacturing and delivery of GVK-450 system (without mounting on the ship). Upon examination of the mentioned sum, it was revealed that the amount was groundlessly overrated. According to the source of Central Navy Portal, this indicates dishonesty of that organization as executor of contractual commitments.
In Nov 2011, defense ministry, JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation, and Admiralteyskie Verfi shipyard decided to complete rescue ship Igor Belousov in 2014 without increase of overall cost. It was decided to waive the services of Lazurit Design Bureau offered to equip Igor Belousov with Italian components for diving system.
Astute class begs to differ:D
beauty comparison with Pr.885 Yasen…no good photos and from angles are available and those available are in BW. From what is availabe we see below…

two more shots which I did not see posted

Few pics of INS Vikramaditya…..she has beein moving to and fro from where she has been docked after being floated out from the Sevmash basin…
Shes getting very beautiful each day…night shot with all lights glowing would be superb!
Astute class begs to differ:D
lets see it side by side…

Astute photo is billiant…but on the beauty of physical lines, I differ…the Schuka-B looks better. Pull in the Gepard with its smaller dome and “Yasen sail”, it looks even better. For me, Yasen looks the best now….the nearest competitor would be Baraccuda, waiting to see how it turns out. The Frenchies make beautiful subs and Scorpene is one of the most beautiful DE subs out there.
AFAIK all Pr.971 boats have an escape capsule, so why is the bump not present on the rest of them? Is Chakra planned to have a larger crew, requiring a bigger capsule?
This is probably a new escape capsule with enlarged capacity or other features (greater depth?). This may be the same capsule that is integrated in Gepard and Yasen. But unlike these two (whose sail are almost the same), Schuka-B have a smaller sail and hence the top part of the escape module being visible?
well another photo…..this is what PSG have in his blog, but no specific diameter given.

Posted below is a photo of the full-scale model of the X-band active radar seeker for the PAD exo-atmospheric interceptor vehicle developed by the DRDO. The more advanced PDV interceptor vehicle’s R & D process has not yet ended since it was decided back in 2010 to develop a dual-mode terminal seeker for the PDV by employing sensor-fusion techniques. Consequently, the PDV interceptor will be equipped with both the active radar seeker, plus an imaging infra-red seeker that is already being developed for the AAD-1/2 endo-atmospheric interceptors.
DRDO active seeker….would be useful to know its diameter..

Japan is already making move to deepen defense ties with India and if India can join this project it would be good.
Going alone on a project like AMCA is going to be a big mess in the making even though many are euphoric about India’s “capability”….
I wish the GoI and the concerned authorities make some decision for a JV rather than making AMCA another never ending project….

Great photo of 971 surfacing in the cold north.
Gepard looks great….
what are the plans for the rest of the incomplete boats…how many are left??
-Admiral Gorshkov to start dock trials in may as well.
hmmm……starting 2004…its now 8 years.
It would have been much better if the Russian Navy had invested that money and time in Pr.11356 class and upgrading their pr.956 and pr.1155 ships with more AA weapons

Good news…hope the fund allocation is smooth and plan don’t get delayed.
Good to see the INS Chakra finally entering the Indian Naval service…..and great photo!
It is mentioned about another submarine being leased and MDB in an earlier article had said that India could lease more. Total numbers being 4-5. It would be logical as well as cost effective also if the IN continue to induct more of this class of submarines. But it looks like the Naval bosses have more than enough money to waste on P-8s where as not enough pocket for strategic assets like the N-subs.
Anyone have info on how many Pr.971 incomplete boats are left that could possibly fulfill the need for 4 more attack N-subs for the Indian Navy??
