I’ve asked the same question since the day the photo apeared, both here and on russian fora. It’s rumoured it might be the Syrian MiG-29M2, note lack of IFR , new sensors on the nose and spine , and that “thing” right behind the landing gear leg wich some folks say it might be the fairing for the new SOAR system (different from the fairing on 154). Also on the wingtips there’s something that looks like SOLO -the two black dots.

So yeah , if you bump into Mr. Evgeny Volkov by any chance , ask him nicely if he’s having more of this most interesting new bird.
    ๐Ÿ˜‰
Btw, Happy New Year to everyone too.:)

Goood one mack…I actually failed (or better still, lazy) to notice the lack of probe because any new built MiG-29 will be based on the MiG-29K/KUB and hence was under the illusion (??) that the provision for the refueling probe/refueling probe to be a part, as standard.

Are you pointing out the the bump in front of the OLS on the nose section? IN’s MiG-29K/KUB and the MiG-35 also had some sort of that bump infront of their OLS, isn’t it? I coulddn’t get the one on spine you mentioned and the new fairing behind the landing gear.
Btw, looking at the IFR probe area don’t you think they intend to install a less costly & complicated bolt-on type IFR probe like that on SMT?

    Supposedly…

    http://i.ytimg.com/vi/MwyNVYe0K-0/0.jpg

    It is not much clear….

    From The Hindu link….

According to a senior naval functionary, the carrier was โ€˜technically floated out’ as the shipyard needed the dry-dock for โ€˜some other commercial work.’ โ€œThe carrier has taken on about 14,000 tonnes. She would now undergo interior outfitting, including the laying of pipes before being dry-docked again in the latter half of next year for integration of the propulsion gear-box, generators and the like,โ€ he told The Hindu.

I really doubt that statement and hope it is a typo and meant 24 or 34,000 tonnes in displacement. Because 14,000 tonnes is just toooo low for a completed hull of a 38-40,000 tonne carrier… If it is actually 14,000 tonne displacement, i really doubt if the entire hull have been completed and if the hull floated out is just the aft section of the carrier… similar to the way Cavour was built (2-3) large blocks.

Or probably, he meant 14,000 tonnes of steel used so far….??

beautiful….hope they upgrade it with RD-33 series3 engine… they can get it from HAL who will be making the engine under license and get the service also…

    TR1,

I saw the mention of the new RD-33MK for the Russian Navy MiG-29K with an increased thrust of 9,500kg. This would mean the RD-33MK will now be a 93kN thrust engine. But I could not find a good source for confirmation.

If true, it once more confirms that the guys is never short of technology & leaps forward quickly with even little injection of funds. For a comparison ….. the RD-33MK with 9.5t thrust means it is now ~93kN thrust engine. Typhoon is now @90kN thrust engine, Rafale will be getting 90kN thrust engine and after a much delayed and badly planned & managed Tejas LCA programme….. they are planning for a higher thrust engine with French collaboration for the Tejas Mk2 with a thrust of 90kN.

I still cannot understand why such a stupid plan of 90kN thrust engine sooooo late in the show when a higher thrust RD-33MK is available or just around the corner….

rd-33mk intended for mig-35 with TVC.

I doubt itz a RD-33MK with TVC… more like a display engine that need to be assembled properly…?

Wish You all a GREAT YEAR ahead…. HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you guys….. ๐Ÿ™‚

what is the stroy behind this one….this photo is dated 27 Dec 2011 and classified as a MiG-29M2/35. The number of 747 also looks new. The nose cone is a regular one…..either the normal slotted array or have they completed the Zhuk-AE??

Need help- what submarine is this?

You may have seen in the comparison pictures itself……but still, my take on identification of Gepard is to have a look at her ar$e…she is the only one with that small dome on the fin. That distinct fin will help in identification, even if the sail doesn’t.

And yes, as you mentioned, the sail reminds of the Yasen class. That will also tell us something about the “relation” between Yasen and Gepard. Something sort of Su-35 to T-50 scenario, if we may term it that way?

How do the Indian Su 30 loses (3 so far) compare to the Russian ones of Su 27 series ?

It would be better to compare with the PLA fleet of Su-30s. Twin seater, long in service (and more importantly) have being flying.

How do you know the gunner didn’t separately target those two areas?

AFAIK, The gunner selects a target and press the trigger and the metal flows as long as the trigger is pressed. But usually gunner gives it in bursts. In this case when the cannon bursts, there are two areas that is lit-up, which from my estimation is almost 100 or 200m apart. Around 14.52 minute the said cannon fire start and we see two point of impact, then the camera zooms in to the rear point of impact and even there we can see the next bursts of fire being dispersed over an area and not getting localized to the intended (?) target area…. I felt it that way, and hence asked if anyone else saw that…

here is the start of that firing…

Make the additional order 43 from 42 ๐Ÿ™

As far as I’m aware….Su-30s are not oranges….and adding one more unit to the list may not be that simple.

The last batch have already been done deal. Any inclusion can result in opening up a finalized deal and overall price may vary to our disappointment. More likely they will increase the license production numbers to compensate for the losses? That way HAL gets to work on more. JMT

Su-30 crashed. Pilots made it out ok though ! ๐Ÿ™‚

hmmm….it crashed as soon as it took off…. what could it be….bird- ingestion? But still the Su30s got an engine to carry on. Or flight computer went down?

    Mi-26 low fly by O.O

    ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Just as I thought the Frenchies were insane flying their Cougar too low, this one just beat them. What are those guys doing…they are playing with it like toys. It was just tooooo close to the guy on the ground. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
But a pretty confident pilot and an aircraft that is precise to his input. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Btw, did you guys notice it??? …..we saw in some Boeing’s brochure how the Chinook is better as the twin rotor will not create much problem with downwash and put an illustrative comparison with the Mi-26. And in this video, there was absolutely nothing of that sort. I couldn’t see a single grass moving…
