    Taj,
I feel that you misunderstand the position of internees in Neutral Ireland during WW2. The Irish Government was willing, indeed anxious to release all internees after an elapsed time somewhat akin to the Swedish position. It was the British Government who opposed and the Royal Navy in particular. The contention was that if the RAF Internees were released then German Internees would also have to be released. The big question was how could the Germans get to France from Ireland. Interesting! By the way aircraft were never interned.

    Thanks Mark 12,
I can’t put a name to you! I had and still have many great friends in UK. Please put me out of my misery! The question of the colour shade promps me to say that the Seafire colour scheme was matt finish and as a result of their service at Gormanston, being so near the sea the colour was inclined to fade. The Spitfires were in a gloss finish defined as Grey Green, which was misleading and as far as I can see from the photos is far too light for the Spitfires. I was present at Baldonnel when Spitfire 163 left for England and recall it from many visits in the hangar prior to it’s departure. I too have a panel from one of the Seafires and is very definately a lighter colour than the Spitfire.

Great to hear Graham Skillen mentioned please give my best regards to him the next time that you are in touch. I think the photo of 161 which you attached is one of Grahams and not from my old friend the late Jim Masterson.
    Kind regards

Nice to see the Spitfire rebuild, The colour green does not look to be the correct shade as I remember it. Perhaps it is due to the fact that they are indoor shots.
