I’ve met Ken a few times over the years (usually at Bond events), and I always find that he is a joy to listen to. As already mentioned he is a lovely guy and he did leave Russell Brand in awe.

The video Born to Bond is well worth the price, very interesting and for non-Bond fans, not too much 007 😡

I think the answer is that no one has bothered to administer such an enterprising idea. However, Shuttleworth did when they recovered their DH88 Comet racer, G-ACSS, and sold off various sizes of painted fabric when they recovered it. I am the proud owner of a piece. Maybe not original 1930s fabric, but at least it’s from the Comet and the money went towards the aircraft’s restoration.

Caroline Grace also sold fabric pieces from ML407 some years ago, I still have mine somewhere.

Perhaps to the untrained ear we do sound more and more like Brummies. The accent is similar but the words used and to an extent, I suspect the phraseology, are highly individual and will be missed.

    Regards,

    kev35

Being a Brummie, we moved to Pelsall in the 60s (I was 13) and on attending the local school the other pupils thought that I spoke posh (never been called that since), but at least they could understand me. Couldn’t say the same for me understanding some of them.

Even nowadays (when away from home), I’m surprised (and pleased) that when people mention my accent, they label me as a Brummie rather than someone from the black country. I still have trouble understanding some of the locals.

Either of two particular Aston Martins. DB5 “BMT216A” or Vantage “B549WUU”

Only ever had two, an early (H reg) Honda SS125 which I bought (from my brother) so that I could visit Duxford (although the first show was Staverton) as I wasn’t going to pedal it there, like I had done Halfpenny Green, Gaydon and Weston Park. It served me well for many years, until an “unfathomable” fault developed which my brother nor I could put right, so I took the bit by the horns and bought a brand new (T reg) Honda CB250N Super Dream.

I resold the SS125 back to my brother for the price I had paid (£20) even though I had only recently spent a lot on it, including new exhausts (£25 each) and lo and behold, he didn’t even bother leaving it a few weeks, next day he had “discovered” how to fix the fault and it was back on the road – we didn’t talk for some time after that.

My Super Dream never let me down, I forget what the mileage was when I gave it up, it’s just that I was getting too cold, too wet, too often, I needed a roof over my head and something more than an engine twixt my legs to keep me warm. I fotget what I sold it for, but just after I agreed a price someone came along and offered me twice as much – I hoped that the original deal would fall through, but that was one of those times when my morals got the better of me.

Also saw Ken Dodd there too, another 2 hour show…..now he really did split your sides, with mostly clean humour.

You were short changed – or did you leave because you’d booked a taxi.

I saw him in Wolverhampton, my parents were due to see him, but my mom was off colour and rather than waste the tickets, I went with my dad, not sure what to expect. Doddy started off by telling the audience to cancell any booked taxis, as he didn’t intend finishing by ten, it was gone twelve by the time he finished and had me laughing for most of the time, if anyone gets a chance to see him live – go!

As to US (musical) comics, a couple that I like are Tom Lehrer:

Agree with all the sentiments above.

And yes BumbleBee I am of that age, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_2lqnTuxjg and even remember The Beatles being on the panel.

Such a shame that most people don’t realise what a great composer he was. Yes, everyone remembers the title songs of his films, but the incindental music is just as good – dare I say, occasionally even better.

One from Midnight Cowboy that has been used for a number of sports programmes.

RIP JB – 007’s never been the same without you.

I’m sure this question was asked on the radio last week, I would guess Simon Mayo on Radio 2, probably in the “homework sucks” section. Had a quick look but can’t find previous answers, maybe someone else knows how to find them?

Great wardrobe in that bedroom scene though.
