The money doesn’t disappear.
Unless it was spent with foreign contractors it will have provided business for UK suppliers, jobs, income.
All of which are taxed, so a large proportion of it comes back to the treasury.
The faster money circulates the better.
I am not even remotely interested in the Games. But they cannot be a bad thing for the economy long-term.
Moggy
101% unemployment would have been a lot worse without it as it not only covers construction jobs but also all the spin off unseen jobs builders spending in cafes , drivers delivering goods , companies making those goods , printers , tailors for suits uniforms etc ,public transport etc etc not only that but we have to considder how many will attend then whilst here will go on to other destinations in the uk spending whilst here !!
people only ever seem to factor in what is spent and got back on site and rarely factor the almost double sattelite spin off employment that can even if only small can mean the difrence between a company staying open or closing !!
face it maggie was pro forces !! every one since has tried thier best to cut back !!

NOW LETS FACE THE ACTUAL REALITY !! at the time of the falklands conflict 1982 the royal navy pilots rated the argentines pilots as A NO 1 so given that rating and all we have done is decimate our forces ( if we are honest it was only luck that won the falklands ) if we are realistic we are in a millitary very weak position and if challenged now there is a better than average chance of losing !!

“The IS mechanism operates by correcting shake. When there is no shake, or when the level of shake is below the threshold of the system’s detection capability, use of the IS feature may actually *add* unwanted blur to the photograph, therefore you should shut it off in this situation. Remember that the IS lens group is normally locked into place. When the IS function is active, the IS lens group is unlocked so it can be moved by the electromagnetic coil surrounding the elements. When there’s not enough motion for the IS system to detect, the result can sometimes be a sort of electronic ‘feedback loop,’ somewhat analogous to the ringing noise of an audio feedback loop we’re all familiar with. As a result, the IS lens group might move while the lens is on a tripod, unless the IS function is switched off and the IS lens group is locked into place.”
in effect all i.s. does is minimise handheld camera shake it can work against you in certain situations !!

a little known fact about i’s’ is that it is of very little bennefit if you can already hold a lens steady ( it actualy performs worse than non i.s. if the feature is left on whilst mounted on a tripod !! fact !! ) so i’d say to myself as i am steady enough to shoot at 1/20th sec on a 300mm lens and get results i.s . would only marginaly improve my shots , granted i’d probably up my production but i would still go home with something acceptable with fully manual non is !!
